I am a new comcast HD customer. I have a Samsung 32 LCD.
Several times now my picture has gone black for about 5 seconds then it comes back. I have the 6412 hd box using a DVI connection. Using the rewind option on my remote I noticed that the section that I missed when the screen blacked out was there. Has anyone else had this problem? Prior to comcast I had the tv hooked up to DTV (not hd) and never noticed this problem. I'm wondering if it's the TV or the box or the DVI cable? Thanks! |

Our Samsung just started doing a similar thing today. It froze and had green lines of vertical "static" then went black, shut itself off, and came back on. It's done it three times today.

I purchased my first LCD Television for Christmas and it does the same thing. I thought I was getting a great deal on this Toshiba 26" LCD television.
I have read many different forums on the net and it appears to be happening in many different brands besides Toshiba. I originally thought it was my connection from my DVD/VCR combo player to the TV. I am using a coaxial cable connection. I was originally watching DVD's on Christmas evening and the day after and the screen would go totally black and sometimes it would stay black until I turned the TV off and back on. Sometimes I would get vertical lines in different colors on different occasions while watching DVD's. Also while watching TV channels, the screen would go black for about 30 seconds or more. Sometimes I would turn the TV off and then on again and the problem would go away. Also while watching regular cable channels, I would get all these vertical lines in a multitude of different colors appear on the screen. I contacted the technical support people from Toshiba and they suggested I disconnect the cable going in to the DVD/VCR combo and see if that clears up the issue. Well guess what, it did not while watching regular television. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreate their comments..... |

Try connecting your cable box to the TV with component cables (green, blue, red) instead of HDMI/DVI. It sounds as if it is a HDMI or HDMI/HDCP related issue and component video would eliminate the issue.

If it seems like it has to rescan it could be due to your cable box being set up to change the res when a 4:3 source comes through. If you set it to stretch it shouldn't do that anymore. To access this option you need to turn off the cable box and then hit menu and then you will the see the 4:3 override option

I have my comcast box set to "native". There is a slight delay between channels. mostly HD to SD, but not a Hugh delay. May two seconds. I don't mind it. I am using hdmi from the box, the new black one, to the tv.

I am writing to you all that is on this tread about problems with your cable boxes that are getting a black screen just before changing channels in HD. I work for a Local Cable Company in Florida near Tampa.
I have a LG Flat Screen and brand new Samsung HD DVR. I brought it home hooked it up and I noticed something, every time I changed Channels within the HD Channel lineup sometimes my Channels would stay black for awhile or my LG TV would shut off and reboot itself. I read some posts on this site and I decided to try something, ever one the HD DVR from ever cable companies that are mentioned in this thread have settings. First: I called my Company to speak with Customer Service and even the person I spoke with didn't have an answer for me. He never heard of a box shutting off the TV before and he even checked with his supervisors. Second: I found that the default settings on my HD DVR have it set to view 720i,720p,480i, 1080i, and auto selected in the display settings on the cable box. They were all selected, so through the process of elimination, I found if only select one instead of all then it resolves my issue of my TV shutting off and I've noticed the channels changing faster. So, I'm confident this will resolve a lot of your issues with lag time in anyones channel changing and/or problems with your TV shutting off then coming back on. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for the broadcasting networks such as ABC, NBC, FOX, Local TV stations that are broadcasting in the different formats like 720 i, 720p, 1080i, and so forth, you get the picture LOL. |
