Default Hdmi to DVI on SA8300DVR box

I have been reading and learning so much from this site I just want to thank everyone for all of the very useful info. OK here is my question. I have 60" Sony LSD and I just got the lastest and greatest box (SA8300HD DVR) from our local provider CHARTER and this new box has an HDMI slot on the back and my TV only has a DVI in so I went out and bought a new $129.95 Monster Hdmi to DVI cord and when switch over to the DVI imput on the tv it cuts out and looses the picture a lot but if I switch back over to the output that still has the component cables hooked up the picture is fine and has no issues. I have already checked the cable connections twice and reset the box once and it is still cutting out. Has anyone got any ideas and had this problem?? Happy Holidays to everyone, Mike D

Sony 60" LCD (WE 610)
SA8300HD DVR with a 300GIG Maxtor external HD for extra space needed to record in Hi-def
Pioneer Elite home theater receiver
Poineer Elite DVD player
All cables are Monster and high quality and I have fiber optic lines running the sound from the DVD player to the receiver and the from cable box to the receiver.

i have the same dvr, but different tv.
once in my playing around with the cables i found that the picture was blinking out like what you say.
i unplugged the hdmi - hdmi cable and re-plugged it in. all was then fine.

notice the LACK of a physical latchment on both hdmi and dvi. it is makes it possible for these to come loose. try a replug first. ymmv.

Default Thanks for the quick response

I already tried the unplugging and replugging the cable with no change. I noticed your profile pic with you riding your dirt bike, do race MX?. Merry Christmas, Mike D

hmmmm
maybe try wiggling and end of the wires to see if it is a short or not. other than that, either a doa cable or your tv or box has a bad port maybe. do you have another dvi (or hdmi) component that can prove if a port or cable is bad/suspect? the time warner guy that installed mine said these boxes were brand new and he wasn't that impressed with them. he said he liked the older (8000???) boxes better. i have no history with any.

so you got the sata connection to work? i had read it wasn't working yet. cool for you!!! 300gb is a lot of space.

have you tried the keyboard connector? get anything to work/show up?

i race offroad (ie. hare scrambles, grand national cross country [gncc] and enduros)

The SATA connector on your box is active? During my install the tech informed me that the connector was not active and would probably never be! Hopefully just more misinformation from Cablevision.

Enough of this trivial connection stuff, sunrah and digger.

The real question is this....

When will we ever be able to watch MX / SX in HD?
