When I called and upgraded my service with comcast from the digital cable, to digital cable with HD, they told me that there was a one time $40 installation fee. I was at first confused, as I knew all they had to do was switch my cable box to a different one... but she assured me it was standard and everyone had to pay it. Feeling frusterated, I asked her what I was getting for my $40, and she told me that it was the installation of my HD service, along with the new box and all the cables I needed to view it in full HD. I then specifically asked her if the cables provided would be HDMI or DVI, and she answered "Yes."
I had no reason to go behind my set after the install was completed, until today. I decided to get the Xbox High-Def AV pack, and when I went behind my set to connect my companant cables- imagine my supprise to see a set already plugged in- and to my cable box no less. They didn't use HDMI or DVI cable. Now, was I lied to by the sales rep on the phone? Or maybe the tech used the wrong cable? Should I call and complain, or is this the wire they normally provide? Thanks for any help you can give me... I'm just really frusterated right now- I was annoyed I had to pay $40 in the first place, but if I was lied to in the process and it only included the indefinate rental of their componant cables? That's just blood-boiling to me. ~Sam |

I have Comcast and just upgrade to the DVR. My installation only cost $15, but I was also given component cables.
I am not sure that the DVR's DVI works yet... I just read a post in this forum about that I think.... |

Well, what they often don't tell you is that if you go to the local office and pick up the box, that there's no charge. If you ever make a change again, just go get the box. In my case, I wanted the Duel Tuner DVR, but was told over the phone that none of the local offices had them. Because I was willing to pick it up, they waived the truck roll fee. As it turned out, I stopped by a local office anyway and they DID have it.
In regards to the cables not being HDMI or DVI, it's likely just lack of knowledge on the part of the person you talked to. They often don't have a clue when it comes to anything technical. |

mshulman- you're right... I'm sure the woman on the phone had no idea what she was agreeing to make the comcast tech use in his install. I called and the rep I spoke to assured me that they only provide hookup with componant cables to give HD signal. I wish I had known in advance!
I just need to figure out which type of cable input the comcast box has. I know my TV only has an HDMI (no DVI), so now I need to check on the box and see if it's DVI or HDMI. I hope it's an HDMI! Should I just get the $25 wire that I see linked around here all the time? I see no point in buying the Monster name, so I wont ![]() ~Sam |

Hey all the Comcast HDTV DVR's only have DVI not HDMI output but if your tv has that they make conversion cables to convert DVI to HDMI.All of the HDTV STB's I have had with Comcast have had DVI active the HDTV STB ,DCT6208 Single tuner DVR,DCT6412 Dual tuner. The ladyon the phone was just clueless and fed you what it sounded like you wanted to hear.......The cables they hooked me up with was those stock low end Component video cables.

Well since comcast wont ever provide the cables to me for free, I placed an order from http://www.computercablestore.com for the DVI -> HDMI cable. Hopefully it comes soon, and there are no problems!
It's a shame that it's so expected to hear Comcast lie. I think they're currently pulling the wool over my eyes in reguards to my complaint about lack of Fox HD in the channels they are sending me... and again, there's nothing I can do. Urgh! So frusterating! ~Sam |
