Question New to Time Warner Cable HD

I did a self install of my high def on Saturday using the provided Scientific Atlanta 3250 HD box and my new Samsung TXP 3064W tv. The High Def channels look magnificent but when I press the "#" button on the remote to change from 16:9 letterbox, squeeze or zoom the on screen display indicates that my tv is 4:3 not 16:9! I tried to enter the box's setup by pressing "guide" and "info" with the box off and the tv on but nothing comes up. If I try to adjust other non high def channels like NBC 4 or CBS 2 the display says that "this program's picture matches your tv type" so I am locked out of making adjustments. I therefore have the grey or black bars at the sides of the picture and the on screen display shows : tv type 4:3 setting letterbox 16:9 after pressing "#" on the remote. I called TWC today and the person suggested watching non def channels using s -video on the box to another av input on the set. This does work but the picture's aspect ratio is vertically sqeezed and the picture is stretched. Is this the way I am supposed to be set up? I am a newbie to this so bear with me please, but I am a quick learner. Any help will be much appreciated.

Not sure I know the answer to your particular problem but look for my other posts hereon. A couple of times I've explained how to first setup the 3250 and then adjust the output settings and / or aspect settings.

I've never seen the message that you're getting and I know that my box will occassionally default back to a "normal" vs. "widescreen" TV type in the General Settings menu. However, I've never noticed any impact from that.

Try going into the 3250HD settings mode using the remote (press settings button twice on the remote).

Scroll up to 'TV: Picture Format" and select "Fixed". This will cause the signal to be sent only in the default format setting from the STB. 9 times out of 10, TWC has the default set to 1080i. This process works if you're using either component video cables or the DVI cable.

Once you've done this go back to viewing the channel.

Press the settings button "once". Scroll around a bit and you'll see "Picture format". Select 1080i here as well.

Hope this helps...it worked for me.
