Default Comcast 6208 Signal Strength

Does anyone know how to access the signal strength meter from the remote? (Comcast/Motorola 6208) I know my setup guy did it while he did the install, and said it had to be more that 20db. I can access the main setup screen, where you change the aspect ratio, but can't find the signal strength. I'm trying to figure out if I need to crawl around my attic and check for loose connections.

You da man Doug! I've got Google setting right here in my toolbar, thought never crossed my mind. Your answer worked great. That was the screen I was looking for. When you get it, go down to "OOB STATUS" (don't ask me what that means) and press "OK", , but it gives you signal strength (and rates it good/fair/poor). My signal strength is right at 20db, which my installer said was the minimum for HD. I'm gonna change some cables around, and possibly buy a signal amplifier, to see if it improves the number..... Thanks for the tip!

my current status kept going from 22.4 to 24.5...Said GOOD, so I guess I'm okay for now....but next time I go pixel..I'm hitting power and setup to see what the signal is.

I had Comcast digital cable with HD installed last Friday and over the weekend watched HD with few dropouts but many of the SD digital stations were not coming in. I just had the problem fixed by Comcast who installed a heavier coax from the street to the house and then went through the house changing splitters and improving the wall coax outlets. Everything is just fine now. They talked about fitting a signal amplifier but seemingly it wasn't required. The HD DVR is great! and apparently you can save to VCR.

Thanks for that info ja2935 , it's amazing how much discussion goes on in this forum about PQ, yet very little is mentioned about the wiring in your house. Comcast did sorta the same thing for me, but mentioned since I have 6 TV's hooked up, my signal quality is pretty degraded. I'm going to invest in the signal amp to see if it improves it. If not, I'm going to run a dedicated line from the cable box to my DLP.

Get the signal amp from Radio Shack - they have a great return policy if you find it's no help!

I have had a Moto signal amp and haven't seen much improvement from it. I have 2 tv's upstairs, one in my office, the sammy in the family room and 3 in the sportsbar poolroom basement...but not all are on at the same time. I suspect most of my signal goes to the cable modem wireless always on throughout the house.

However, the cable coming into the house is at least 9 years old, so like the previous post, my signal may be better if I have them at least come out and replace the signal to my MAIN tv. I may even put it there my self and ask them to come out and bury a splitter.

HMMMM..anyone else do this? You guys are great, I keep thinking and spending....hehe...happy holidays.

I've got the same thing- 6 TV's hooked up from Comcast, and we had issues with getting signal due to lack of strength. I just wanted to tell you that we complained to Comcast- and they installed an "in-home amplifier" for us, for free. Just trying to save you a little money- I think you can get Comcast to install one of their own units for free!
