Default Scientific Atlanta 8300HD Cable Box Question

I just installed a new Toshiba 50hp66 plasma TV with a Scientific Atlanta 8300hd cable box. i am using an hdmi connection. i am trying to get the cable box to stretch the picture to fill the screen but cant seem to find out how to do so. the only option i have on my TV is the "zoom" and as most know, it just does not look right.

how do i get the box to stretch the picture? i also have a Scientific Atlanta 4200HD box also with the same issue.

Thanks!

I believe it's the # key that cycles through stretch, normal, etc.

At least for the 8300HD

you can set the box by hitting the settings button, and then the yellow triangle button "A" for more settings. Scroll down to Aspect and set tv type to 16:9 and then stretch 4:3. You can also use the button at the bottm left that say video settings I believe and that will change it.

... or in Setup for the SA8300HD, you can configure 480i and 480p with "Wide" instead of "Normal".

my other question that comes with this is...

my receiver (denon 1707) has 2 COAX audio inputs. i am going to use one for the dvd player and i was planning on using the other for the 8300HD. my question is does the 8300HD have a "digital Coax audio output"? i see one output that is marked "digital audio". its a RCA type connection and is black. is this the right connection to send audio to my receiver input marked "coax"?

Default codes for remote

i have the 8300hd and was wondering, is there a code i can put in to allow me to set up the remote to do things like skip ahead 30 seconds, just like the back button does to skip back?

No, there is no code to support that feature in the SARA software.

The ONLY way to get a halfway accurate answer is if one tells the box, the software running on the box, the cableco AND the location.

Location actually IS important, Someone NOT in my city has the same box, software, software version, AND cableco, BUT he has some software options I do NOT have.

if you want the box to automatically stretch SD signals to fill the screen but not look as bad as if you use the "zoom" button I have a way for you to do it. what you have to do is set up the box to use different signals other than 1080i. Go to the box and make sure its turned off. Then on the box your going to press the "info" and "guide" buttons on the box at the same time. A screen will pop up and ask you if you would like to set up your box. Follow the on screen instructions and make sure you turn on all the differenent resolutions that say "widescreen". Then after you are done with the set up, turn on your box and go to the settings menu. Go to "set. Picture format" than you just set that to "auto DVI/HDMI". I hope this helps, its hard to explain with out being there.

I just hooked up the 8300HD box to a Samsung LN-T5265F through the HDMI connection and get video but no sound. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same issue when I set mine up. All I had to do was go into "audio output" in the STB settings and change it to "HDMI" from Dolby. That solved the issue for me....

I have tried that and connected the cable to all 3 HDMI inputs and still no audio. The only way audio is heard is using HDMI 1 input with DVI R L audio jacks. In which HMDI input do you have yours connected?

Same here, Comcast, 8300HD DVR, using HDMI only video no sound...any clues? I've went through both setups..the one that you do pressing the two buttons while the box is off and also the settings twice but no sound option to chose... is this blocked by the provider? geeeezzzz

Thanks
