Default TWC HD vs. HDDVR question.

I just bought a new 42" Plasma HDTV and I have Time Warner Cable in Rochester, NY. I just called to switch my Digital cable box to a HD box. I asked the person on the phone how the HDMI Cable was hooked up and this is what she told me.

She said that its hooked up DVI to HDMI. She then told me that DVI > HDMI doesn't work well with that box so they recommend component cables over the HDMI. She then told me that the DVR box with HD works fine HDMI to HDMI and tried to get me to subscribe to that. Can anyone tell me if the HDTV box with out DVR works fine with the DVI to HDMI cable or if i'm going to have to upgrade to the DVR box in order to use HDMI. Thanks.
