I have the SA3250HD box and no complaints. DVI-HDMI and RCA cables or Component and RCA work fine. Yes I have them hooked up both ways to compare the difference. Coaxial from box to my surround is a nice extra. However, I am looking to upgrade to the SA8300HDDVR. My question, has time warner worked out all the problems? I want to use the HDMI - HDMI connection that is available, but read a lot about sound problems. At this and other forums there are a lot of complaints about the SA 8300. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I know DVR is an excellent upgrade, but don't want to fix something that isn't broken. Especially if I have problems. Thank you

I've been using the HDMI out for over a year with no problem on two boxes. And I know at least three other people (famliy and friends) that have never experience problems either. Quite frankly I haven't heard too many complaints concerning the SA8300HD.

Some Cable companies have started releasing the necessary firmware patches, but they're trickling in at best. I'm one of the lucky ones though. See here... http://forums.audioholics.com/forums...ad.php?t=21194 |

Thank you for all your responses. My current connection is from my SA3250hd DVI-HDMI to TV, Coaxial from Box to Sony DAV-X1 Receiver / DVD player. This player only has the HDMI input.
I was hoping to set it up the same way. I am assuming the 8300 has a digital sound output. This way I avoid any repeater or double HDMI problem. This is a small bedroom set up so I didn't go all out with the bells and whistles, Just a nice little system that I can enjoy the occasional loud movie.

The 8300HD has both optical and cooper (coaxial) digital audio out, both pass DD 5.1 (although that's of little concern to you).

I got my SA8300HD DVR box on Saturday hooked up with component cables (my TV does not have HDMI capability) and have had no problems. In fact, there’s a noticeable improvement in resolution over my old Pioneer HD box, and recording programs on DVR is certainly better than with my old VCR which I used to do.
