Default Comcast and HD DVR? Do they have it?

Hi

I am currently with Directv

With Comcast, I see it is $14.95 for HD and Tivo monthly

Will this give me Tivo on my upstairs SD Tv

and also Tivo on my downstairs HDTV?

Will I be able to record HD programs?

Please let me know

I think that is right but I want to be sure

Thanks

just be very aware that comcast forces you to use their totally substandard hd dvr (made by motorola with programming by microsoft). it performs terribly and the user interface / options are not up to tivo standards. i'm switching back to directv in a matter of days...but yes, you can record hd on the comcast dvr.

I've had a pair of Motorola 6412 hd-dvrs through Comcast Seattle for over a year and they've both been generally very good. One is paired with a bedroom plasma and the other in my main lcos system. I see nothing substandard about them at all, they work as advertised and provide hd recording that is indistinguishable from live. Yes the interface when it first came out was terrible (what do you expect from first gen MS) and I spent a lot of time complaining to customer support. Today it's a decent guide interface that's quite serviceable and does the job.

They have dual tuners so you can watch one, record one or record two channels and play back something already recorded. SD record time is about 65 hours. The main drawback I see is that hd recording time is limited to about 15 hours but since I have two of them it's never been a problem.

The big advantage I see to cable is all local hd channels are "through the box" and doesn't require an ota like satellite. Also in Seattle when I had Dish it required a separate dish to get hd channels which constantly dropped out whenever a plane was on approach into SeaTac or in a heavy rainstorm.

In this market the lease price is $10 per month for the first unit and $15 for the second. Hope this helps you out.

I changed to Comcast last week after 13 years with DirecTV and their Tivo unit for several years. The comcast dvr is definitely different and took a few days to get used to. I guess I'm still getting used to it. I don't like it as good as the DirecTV Tivo but so far I figured out how to make it do most everything I want it to. When MPEG 4 comes to my area I will probably switch back to Directv. I just changed for the cable local HD channels and the great deal you get for a year coming from satellite.

it's no secret that the comcast boxes suck. I've gone through 3 of them. As much as they have frustrated me, I must say they have been stable for the past few months, giving me the problems it used to.

Not all areas are Motorola equipped. Many are Scientific Atlanta units running SARA software. They have larger HDs (160GB over Motos 120GB), usually getting 20 hours of HD content, functional PIP. The 8300HDs also support SATA external drives for added storage.
