I noticed today that Comcast in the Philly area now has Universal HD channel. Not really sure what this channel offers, I only saw Knight Ridder reruns...

It seems to over series from various other NBC networks (NBC, Bravo, USA, Sci-Fi) from a few years back. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to find a source for information about what series UHD will present in the future. It seems to be the kind of network where you just have to keep checking, and not rely on anything.

It doesn't look like there will be any original programming, just a bunch of movies stretched out to 16:9. At least TNTHD had some original material and sports....

Seems a little bit like adding a HD channel just for the sake of adding one...

I don't think U-HD stretches their movies like TNT. The ones I've seen have been true HD.

Heh..enjoy watching The Equalizer (man that was a horrible series) reruns and tons of Universal Studio spam I recall how lousy the programming was when Comcast added the channel temporarily during the olympix. Altho I wouldn't mind watching Remington Steele reruns. Is it true that the channel has Battle Star Galatica series (the new one) in HD??

They DO NOT distort things like TNT, everything seems to be in real true HD. I do enjoy the occasional old move shown in HD.

Yes, they do show runs of TV series, ones that had been canceled after 1-2 seasons. While I agree this isn't something to jump for joy, it does give those new to HD some content to watch, obviously only for folks who do watch episodic TV drama.

Indeed, they have been running BSG (yes Trica Helfer looks even more amazing in HD) in HD, it looks great. AND they are going to run Firefly in HD this fall. As NBC owns them and the SciFi channel, I can see possibilities for other SciFi series making it here.

Keep in mind this is a free HD channel. As such, I think their programming is reasonable. Given the fact that there's a crying need for HD content, until the technology gets to where there isn't a bandwidth issue, I'm content with UnHD.

I didn't relize that. I guess I can cut them a little more slack..

I will say that I am pleased with mhd. The PQ is great. Hopefully they will expand their content a bit, but I think MHD is a great updgrade. Perhaps UHD has plans in the future that I am not privy too....

I would love to get UHD, MHD or any of the new HD channels coming out.

Consider yourself lucky to get a new HD channel from Comcast! Where I live, it doesn't look like we are going to get anything new anytime soon due to bandwidth issues.

I have yet to experience getting any new HD from Comcast so far, and am looking forward to when we are lucky enough to finally get some new channels. Right now we only get 2 free channels that broadcast HD 24/7, INHD, and DHD. All the rest, still mostly broadcast in SD except for primetime shows.

Umm,I have UHD and how can you say that they dont stretch the movie like TNT? It obviously is so I'm not sure where you get this from/

Actually, I should have qualified it...free on my TWC-NYC system; I know well enopugh what a crazy patchwork qjuilt og what folks get, don't get or have to pay for or not. I pay extra for the HDNets and the InHDs, but I hear there are not extra charges on some other systems.

MHD??? What's that?

Perhaps the stretch thing is specific to system and equipment; it is totally obvious TNT does it and UnHD doesn't up here. We are talking about Universal HD here aren't we?

Yep, I pay $110 a month here in the Seattle area, and it was verified in another forum that I am paying the same amount for my cable bill as someone in an area with more bandwidth.

They have all the same channels I get, but they also recieve 3 extra HD channels that broadcast HD content 24/7that we don't get...UHD, MHD and INHD2.

Seems kind of unfair since I'm paying that amount per month and getting less HD which is pretty much what I watch exclusively.
