Exclamation Need help for hooking my SA8300 up using HDMI

i need to use my HDMI input on my tv & the cable box i have (SA8300 HD DVR) has a spot for HDMI also. I bought the cable & thought all i had to do was run the HDMI cable from my cable box to my tv & the picture & sound would be there. Well all i get is the pic. Could anyone help here please? And in answering please consider i am a novice to this stuff. Thanks for your time.

I am pretty new to the world of Blu Ray & my modest collection includes...Under Siege...Out For Justice...Point Break...Speed...Air Force One...Bonnie & Clyde...UP...American Gangster

Plan on adding The Departed & Gran Torino next. And hopefully one day Scarface will be on Blu Ray as I will be 1st in line to buy.

I don't have an SA8300, I have a Moto 3412. On the Moto, in the set up menu there is a place for me to select how/where I want the audio to be sent. Poke around in the settings and look for an HDMI setting for the audio. Sorry I can't be more specific, but like I said, I don't have the SA8300. Hope this helps.

I am assuming that you are using the home theater system for the audio. If this is what you want then you need a fiber optic audio cable from the SA8300HD output to the Home Theather audio input. You must also go into the setting menu for the STB and select Dolby Digital. The TV's internal audio will no longer work and you must use the Home theather system. If you want the sound through the TV's speakers then select HDMI from the settings audio menu.

Shelton is correct. I didn't realize you wanted to run the audio to the home theater.

Default almost...but not quite

okay, i hooked the HDMI from my STB to my TV & unhooked the cables i use for audio from my tv & plugged them into my STB & i got sound & picture now. BUT when i changed my tv from cable box to the DVD player you could still hear the sound from the channel my cable box was on until i started a DVD & then i am good again as i get the DVD sound once i change my sound field from VIDEO to DVD on my DVD remote...BUT when i switch the TV to GAME for my XBOX 360 wich i just bought the only sound i get is what's coming from my STB & not my XBOX 360, so now i am stuck again because the sound field button on my home theater remote only has VIDEO, DVD, FM, AM. Before i bought the XBOX 360 i used my 2 HD outputs for my STB & DVD player, but all i have is 2 HD outputs plus the HDMI, so this is why i am having this trouble if that helps any, because the XBOX 360 has to have one of those HD inputs on my TV so i am trying to hook my STB w/ HDMI. I hope this makes sense, if not i am sorry, but if anyone can help i would appreciate it.
