Anyone have info on the HDMI connection being turned off on the Scientific-Atlanta's Explorer 8300 DVR? Today I get a message when I turn on my two Adelphia 8300's that the DVI/HDMI connection has been turned off when they or turned on. I've used the HDMI connection on the 8300's even though Adelphia says they do not support it for months. When I hook it up the way Adelphia says to hook it up the picture quality sucks compaired to what I had. Hope some one has a hack or info why Adelphia desided to not allowing it to be used as of today. Yes I called Adelphia and they confirmed they turned the connection off with no reply on why or if it is going to be turned on soon.

I live in Lake View NY which is near Buffalo NY. Talked to sevral Adelphia reps on the phone today and all said yep they don't support HDMI (which I knew all ready but was able to use the HDMI connection for months) Adelphia went on to say they are not aware of any changes they made to turn the HDMI connection off on my DVR's and it sounds like my cable went bad. They are sending a rep out tonight to hook the boxes up to my TV the offical way Adelphia says to be sure they are able to deliver what I pay for. I'm going to see if they can get it to work thier way and not loose any picture quality and at get a replacement HDMI cable to check that way. I use two 8300HD DVR's since I record allot in HD and need the space and like having two one for me one for the girlfreind so i know all on my DVR is my stuff and she keeps her hands off my programs.

Set -up is this I have a Samsung HL-R5667W with 2 firewire inputs, the SA 8300HD DVR with 2 firewire outputs(I belive that only one is active-you'll have to try them both to see which one is active on yours)looking at the back of the SA 8300 my first one is active,2nd one does nothing.Firewire doesn't do sound,so from the SA 8300 I have the optical hooked up to the Onkyo HT-R530.On the Samsung remote there is botton labeled D-Net,push that and it sees the SA8300,highlight the SA 8300 push enter and it switches to the D-Net(firewire).The depth of the blacks and clairty is increased quite a bit,you really notice the change

Adelphia spent over two hours at my house the other night trying to figure out why the HDMI connection was not working. Tried several boxes, called every one possible at Adelphia to see if Adelphia did some thing to stop it from working. Adelphia did admit when on the phone with one superviser they had at least one other coustomer that has the same problem and did not fix it. All they could figure is I may have a bad HDMI cable or Scientific Atlanta did some thing on thier end to possibly disable it some how with out telling Adelphia. The service call is still open till Adelphia verifies that it is Scientific Atlanta that did some thing that I was told may take a couple days to find out. I don't think it's the cable since the DVR showing a screen saying to unplug he HDMI cable it has been disabled and a picture of the back of the DVR at the same time showing how to unplug it and connect it with component wires. The component way does not produce a picture as good as HDMI and now I'm not happy with knowing how good it was on my 60" TV I purchased for $$$$ and HDMI cable for $120.00 to get the best possible picture on the HD channels I watch most of the time. One glimmer of hope I was given today, my next door neighbor's son in-law works for Adelphia in the service department and offerd today to try to get to the root of the problem.
