COX (VA) Cable just started an 800 series channel grouping 'free' for their digital package. The 800 group mimics their 'normal' channels by number but reports it as broadcast in 480 i, vs. the standard NTSC. Their HD offerings are in the 700 series. Thus, now the channel selections would be, for example, as follows
. Channel "3" CBS NTSC quality
. Channel 703 CBS HD 1080 i quality Dolby 5.1 ( I think)
. Channel 803 CBS 480 i quality
The 800 series pic quality seems similar to the NTSC version but the sound is definitely a little better. Most, but not all, COX NTSC channels are offered in the 800 versions. It's almost worth watching in 800, but not dramatically so, not like the HD 700 versions of these counterpart channels. Has anyone read/seen anything on what Cox is doing with these channels? What sound format is being broadcast? Their 'help' people, somewhere in Utah(?), don't know. Thanks Bill
