Default Moto 6412 Series II Guide Problem

I'm having a problem with viewing the guide and program info from Comcast.

1. I was using the component output to my HDTV and the svideo
output to another SD TV. The program info and guide work fine
on the HDTV but won't come up on the SDTV untill I change
the channel about 6 times then everything works fine?

2. Now I changed my HDTV hookup from component to a DVI to
HDMI cable. Again no problem with guide or program info on
HDTV but now I get no guide or program info at all on the svideo
output. Secondly when I try to use On Demand on SDTV I get 2
small pictures of the on demand previews and no menu
(1 in upper right corner and other in lower left corner) .

There is no change whether or not both tvs are on. I did not try the composite video output but it seems like their is a problem with the video overlay when using the DVI output? I tried unpluging unit from outlet both that didn't help.

Any suggestions or comments?

alright maybe I got this if I understand you right.....it might sound simple but on the sdtv are you trying to look at the guide on HD channels....my old bedroom tv did that when i first hooked up an HD box to it,then I went into the menu that lets you change the tv type, the 4:3 override and the component output type and cycled the 4:3 override to letterbox or something but youll see what i mean if that is actually the problem

ok was gonna post this seperately but sounds similar. I recently traded my moto hd/dvr box for the new one with the hdmi connection. everything looks and sounds great my dilemna is with the guide. It will only show programing up till midnight of the same day. won't show anything for the next day or so forth. called em they had me shut box down and power back up with same results...also when I try to search for shows to set up a series recording for like LOST or Survivor it won't find it when I search by title..Tech is coming out saturday....if anyone has any suggestions to try till then well I appreciate it.

godson,

I guess the main problem is that on the SDTV the guide won't come up and the description at the bottom of the screen don't come up either. It don't matter what channel I'm on HD, digital or analog. No on demand menu either.

This really only started happening once I switched to the DVI output connection.

I think I'll try switching back to component output to verify that it only occurs when using DVI.

Found the problem.

If using the DVI output the 4:3 override setting must be set to 480i for the guide and program info to display properly on the composite or s-video outputs.

Now with that being said my HDMI input won't except interlaced video so all SD channels won't display using the 480i override setting for my HDTV.

This is a very poor design in my opinion. The composite and s-video outputs should be locked at 480i for use of the guide and program info overlays.

What I'll have to do is change the 6412 setup back and forth between 480P & 480i for the override setting depending on which TV I'm using.

My other alternative would be to use the component output for my HDTV and leave the override setting at 480i which the component input on the HDTV will accept.

That's probably your best bet - the HDMI doesn't give you any more resolution than the component cables. It depends on your equipment and your opinion on whether or not HDMI is "better" than component.

I agree it sounds like a poor design. However I would argue the TV also has a design flaw by not accepting interlaced signals on the HDMI input. I have a similar setup to yours: I have a Motorola DCT6412 Phase III box connected to my TV using HDMI and to my DVD Recorder using s-video. My HD output is set to 1080i and 4:3 override is set to 480i, and the TV and DVD Recorder both work fine and both have the on-screen guide.
