Default some cablevision digital IO-HD help..

hey guys im new here...this forum is really cool....i have a question though....would i be better off connecting the cable hd box through HDMI interface instead of using the component 1 outlet??? would i get a better picture???? any help would be appreciated as im getting aggravated with the picture for both HD and non-HD channels....,Maybe i expected too much but my picture is not as good as it looked in the store...... my tv is a Panasonic Flat Widescreen HDTV 1080i. if that is helpful... thanks for any help..

Default Dvi/hdmi

I too have Cablevision. Have a brand new Sony KD34XBR960, (great set), in my living room, & a Loewe Aventos 30", (better set), in the bedroom.
Hooked up the DVI/HDMI, to the Sony. Picture was minimally better. Problem was there was an error message on the TV, due to HDCP problems, during VHS taping.
The Loewe has a component/DVI, between the cable box & the TV.
Problem there is that the VCR only tapes in Mono, due to crazy Loewe input configurations.
I called them & they havn't a clue how to fix it.
My suggestion is to stick with component video, & make sure the connections are secure. I have a SA4200HD box. If you have an older model, try to exchange it with Cablevision
In a few months they're supposed to come out with a recordable HD box.

Default Cablevision and QAM

Would anyone know if Cablevision sends the New Jersey HD QAM of the local channels unencrypted and would I be able to pick them up with a QAM capable HDTV receiver if we only subscribe to the Family Cable level?

Am I correct that this would be legal as they are just the local, not premium, channels?
