If you compare the channel line ups, there is only one clear leader as far as content is concerned: VOOM!
Channel Name ........Directv Voom Cablevision Comcast Cox Animania HDTV................ 130 Bravo HDTV ...................501 .....744 Cinemax HD (East) ............221 .....770 ....yes Cinemax HD (West) ............222 Discovery HDTV Theater ..76 ..601 .....735 Encore® E HDTV ...............271 ESPN HDTV ...............73 ..301 .............yes ....703 Epics HDTV ...................122 Fox Sports Net HDTV ...................725 Gallery HDTV .................128 HBO HDTV (East) ........509 ..201 .....750 ....yes ....700 HBO HDTV (West) ..............202 HDNews .......................100 HD Cinema 1 ..................101 HD Cinema 2 ..................102 HD Cinema 3 ..................103 HD Cinema 4 ..................104 HD Cinema 5 ..................105 HD Cinema 6 ..................106 HD Cinema 7 ..................107 HD Cinema 8 ..................108 HD Cinema 9 ..................109 HD Cinema 10 .................110 HD Net .................79 HD Net Movies ..........78 HD Pay per view ........85 ............700 IN HD 1 ...............................701 .....yes ....yes IN HD 2 ........................................yes ....yes Kids Thirteen .........................731 Monsters HDTV ................121 MOOV HDTV ....................129 MSG Network HDTV ......................720 The Movie Channel ............251 .....780 NFL HDTV .....................311 PLAYBOY TV (Adult) ...........701 Rave HDTV ....................125 Rush HDTV ....................124 SHOWTIME HDTV (East) ..543 ...241 .....760 .....yes ....740 SHOWTIME HDTV (West) .........242 Spice HDTV .............85 STARZ! HDTV (East) ...........261 .....740 .....yes STARZ! HDTV (West) ...........262 Thirteen HDTV .........................713 TNT HDTV .....................521.. Treasure HDTV ................127 Ultra HDTV ...................126 WorldSport HDTV ..............123 Dish Network is comparable to Directv and I left off the local and network channels. The cable offerings include the networks in HD and the satellite service require an OTA antenna. Voom furnishes the OTA antenna and their receiver integrates the OTA stations. Directv and Dish receivers vary and it may be required to get a separate STB for the OTA channels. Time Warner is comprable to the other cable offerings and I could not find channel information for Bright House. All of the channels in red are included in the base package for Voom. Only Voom provides any HDTV service without additional charge. All others require an extra cost upgrade with the various providers. I think from the table above that Voom is the clear winner. Voom is the leader not only in channel line-up but also in piq and sound quality. One of the first things I noticed after switching from D* HD to Voom was that not only did the HD look better (Less Pixalization) but the SD also looked better.
This is due to the fact that Voom uses less compression than D*. |

I just voted for VOOM. While I have Comcast HD, even the slightest amount of research has to give the nod to VOOM. I also like the fact that they are using a lower compression algorithm. I had DirecTV for a while and it was totally unwatchable in SD. The pixelation was off the radar screen! I understand that "Dish" is a bit better but VOOM is the champ. My next move will probably be to VOOM.
