Default Motorola DCX 3400 setup menu reverts to 720P

I just got a high def TV and now have the Motorola DCX-3400 DVR cable box. I have not been able to get a straight answer to this question:

Why when I set the user settings in the menu for the cable box to HDMI/YPbPR OUTPUT NATIVE does it soon revert BACK to HDMI/YPbPr OUTPUT 720P which appears to be the factory default for the cable box.

My TV can show up to 1080 P at 24 FPS and after I set it to the NATIVE, I do get 1080 I (which I am told is the highest that Comcast broadcasts except for special programs). It maintains that menu--at least for a while and many of the programs show as 1080 I. HOWEVER--Soon it reverts back to the HDMI/YPbPr OUTPUT 720P. Then, of course, everything is no higher than 720 P.

WHY?? Is there someone there that can help me here??

If you set the cable box to Output 1080i-- does it still revert ack to 720p?

If your TV is a 1080 display, that is what it will display. It won't display 720p; it will upconvert to 1080 and display that. Try letting the cable box display all HD at 1080i and don't use the "NATIVE" setting-- this might fix this minor problem.

Also you might want to change your 4:3 override to 480P

Default DCX 3400 reverts back to 720P still

I tried just setting the DCX 3400 to 1080i. It looked like it was going to keep that resolution, but I find now that it is back to 720 P. The Blueray player is outputting to the Sony TV at 1080 and the Sony shows that resolution. I just don't understand what makes the Motorola DCX 3400 revert back to 720 P (and of course, the Sony shows that resolution).

I wonder if I could contact Motorola and they could give some insite? I know that I am beating a dead horse calling Comcast.

Quite a few channels only broadcast in 720p so that may be the reason the box changes, according to the channel resolution.

I realize that some will broadcast in 720, but iit never goes back to 1080 unless I force it through the cable box menu.

This sounds like a box malfunction. I have come across this a few times in the field and after many tests, I concluded box malfunction. Having worked on the boxes in out staging area and being a technician in the field, I know that these particular settings are the ONLY settings on the box that can only be manual manipulated under normal operation. All the signals and flash memory dumps that are done on these during staging between use by different customers never change the format settings.
