Default Picture Freezes

I have a Pany TH-50PX80U Plasma connected via a HDMI cable to a Scientific 8300HDC DVR and using the supplied HDMI cable and remote (UR5U-8780L-TWY). My provider is Time Warner.

I have a problem where out of nowhere the picture will freeze, sound is still fine.. It does not recover in its on. A simple change of channel unfreezes the picture. Any suggestions , thanks

Sounds a call to Time Warner is needed. Sounds like it's either a DVR or signal strength issue.

I see the same thing here in the RGV market with a SA 8300HDC box and my small Sharp HDTV. Its a minor irritant though and not worth the time for me to drive into town or wait for a tech visit to swap the box.

If the pic freezes and the audio is still going, its not a signal issue, most likely your DVR's hard drive is bad.

Actually, I was thinking about it, if the pic is freezing but audio is still there, its more likely to be the picture output of the DVR, the input of the TV or the cord connecting the 2 for picture. Try a different input of the TV with a different cord, if it still does it, get the box replaced.

(2/8/11): Some history: just moved and added the DVR today. Got home from the TW store, plugged in the box, let it boot and load new updates (1hr). But when I used the menu and page up button the DVR would reboot and reboot. So made a call to TW tech support.

(2/9/11): TW sent a tech out and they replaced the box, checked my signal etc. etc.. . All was well.

(2/10/11): Tonight we tried to record a shop. Went through the record motions, the rec light came on. 2 hrs later checked to watch the show we had recorded. "The DVR showed NO SHOWS SAVED.

(2/11/11): Called tech support again. So in speaking with the tech support person on the phone, she told me to unplug the power cable and force it to reboot. Well it did for 1 hr 45min. It appears TW decided it was time for a major application update. After the long update, the problem was still there and I told TW to send someone out. Picture started to freeze intermittently.

So on 2/12/11, the TW tech showed up, notice the box didn't record, didn't pause, didn't do much expect give a picture which would freeze, replaced the DVR.

So far, everything works, record, playback, no picture freezes. So that's a total of (3) Three DVR's.

One would think TW would test their equipment before giving equipment to a new customer. I guess that's the real world of cable TV and DVR.
