Default Comcast DVR - Sony Receiver Issue - HELP!!!

All right AV Geniuses - Try to figure this one out:

I live in Dallas, (not a Cowboys fan so don't flame), and if you didn't know, Dallas cable, unlike 99% of the country, is split into 2 sides - A and B. So if you have a digital cable box, you need two coax's to plug into the box. I currently have Comcast service with a Moto 6208 HD DVR single tuner box.

My first question: Does anyone know whether it is possible to have a dual tuner box, with DVR,HDTV, the fixins like the Moto 6412 Series III in a dual sided cable environment (A&B)?

More importantly, I am not able to receive a complete picture on my TV when I connect my Comcast DVR to my Sony DA7100ES Receiver. When I connect by DVI-HDMI, I get a picture for about 1-2 seconds with no sound, then the signal completely breaks up. I spent countless hours on the phone with Comcast (completely useless) and Sony - very genuinely wanting to help be but no resolve yet. The sony engineers state that the most probable cause for the HDMI issue is HDCP that doesn' t communicate. When I connect by component, all I get is a broken horizontal lines flickered with a solid green screen. Regarding the component connection, there is a page in the sony manual stating that the signal received by component (or lower) can only be 480i or less and will be upscaled to 576p IF the upscaling feature is turned on. Well I turned the upscaling feature off and I get the green screen.

Equipment:

Samsung HLR 5078W 1080p DLP
Comcast Motorola 6208 HD DVR
Sony STR-DA7100ES

I am being tested on all fronts and patience (along with hair) is wearing thin..... Please help with any ideas.

Some people in the past have recommended cable card, but we can't use because we need the DVR.

aamsergie at hotmail. Thanks again

You need to connect your HDMI direct to the TV, not the receiver. And configure your STB setup for 1080i.

But that's not the purpose of an AV receiver. These expensive boxes are supposed to work - not just as a driver for speakers, but as an all in one solution!!!!!!

Connecting the HDMI directly to the TV will create an audio lag - about 1/2 to 1/4 second. I know because my wife always comments on it.....

Please, if there is anyone with experience with this issue - I'd be most gracious.

Perhaps that's the intended purpose, but the actual function seems to be screwing up your picture. Take the amp out of the loop for testing, to verify the STB & TV & cabling are working right.

You won't be able to use the Component inputs on the Amp, since they're limited to 480i... and you seem in be using an HD capable input that can't accept 480i, only 480p and up.

The issue isn't audio lag, it's video lag... you can adjust audio delay with your amp.

Interesting, I had a very small audio delay issue just because it was DLP and my audio output went to in-wall speakers. It's small enough you don't notice unless you really look for it and there's already a tiny video delay, like with some broadcasts, getting lumped in with the rendering delay. Didn't know you could adjust with an amp.

Thanks RSawdey.

Like I said earlier, there is audio lag - not video lag. The TV is directly connected from STB by component. Audio is optical out to the receiver from STB. I don't know what the deal is, perhaps its the short distance (6ft) that doesn't allow the audio to "catch up" to the video. What I mean is that since it isn't a long distance, 25-50ft +, and assuming that video "travels" slower since it requires more bandwidth, audio doesn't have enough cable to catch up to video. I hope that doesn't sound retarded.

As for checking the STB and cable and TV for working right - they all do. When I go from STB to TV by DVI/HDMI, video is perfect, obviously no audio.

After speaking to a sony engineer again today, he tells me I should downgrade my signal from 1080i (default) to 480i on my STB and send it to my receiver. I haven't done this yet but I feel that would erase any benefit of HD - WTF!!!!!!

Any insight RSawdey?
