Exclamation Comcast Deleting Channels

Anyone else get a notice recently from Comcast that they are dropping 15 channels? IMHO, this is a good thing. They are shedding some of the Premium "West" channels. The reason I like this is because they mention (and I Quote):

Quote:
"In order to make room for future services and channels, effective October 18, 2005, selected West Coast Premium Channels will no longer be available."
It goes on to say that these channels are no longer needed because of On-Demand which effectively does a better job of taking care of the 3 hour time difference in programming from east to west.

But here's what I would like to know, in case anyone has the "inside scoop" for us: What might those "future services and channels" be that will be taking the place of the 15 channels they are dropping? Could it be that they are going to add a lot more HD, including ESPN2HD and TNTHD ??? That would be really great news. Stay tuned.....

I hope its ESPN2HD, and a few others as well. CatManDoo, man I can't beleive comcast isn't carrying TNTHD in your are yet. Well we know how unfortunately slow this process is, hopefully by this time next year, we'll have 10 or more new HD channels.

Hopefully it won't be the 15 exciting new channels I got.

Sprout - the first round-the-clock television destination for pre-schoolers and their parents.

Encore Movie Plex- Highlighting movies from a variety of Enore movie channels.

INSP - Programming that embraces inspirational values.

Black Family Channel - Family oriented programming designed especially for the African American audience.

LOGO - The new television network from MTV Networks targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender viewers.

Cable Latino -Hispanic themed programming including Discovery en Espanol, Toon Disney en Espanol, and 8 music channels.

Don't know if it has anything to do with taking the analog stations below 100 into the SD age on the 28th in my area or not but may be the reason.

Nope, TNTHD still ain't there yet. I frequently surf around at least once a week to see if there are any new additions. I've had Comcast add channels and not tell us (FOX, ABC) and I've also had them tell us we had a channel (UPN) but didn't get it for like 3 weeks. So I rely on this Forum plus checking on my own to see what's really happening. But it would be really sweet to get TNTHD before the start of the NBA season. I bet my man "Sir Charles" takes up all 2,073,600 pixels on my widescreen.

p.s. 10 more HD channels? If they do, I'll throw an HD party and invite everyone on this Forum!

Interesting. Haven't heard that. You mean Sept 28th? What area is that? I'm in Lancaster County, PA but Comcast is keeping something like that a secret if in fact that's what is going on behind the scenes. Thanks!

Me too. I'm already up to my limit of channels to block. I think it's like 20 or so but I could use another couple dozen. I put my 13 HD channels on the "favorites" button and most of the time I just surf through that. But in the event I run out of options there, I reluctantly go into the analog tier out of desperation. Although sometimes I intentionally watch reruns of Seinfeld and Cheers in analog because they're usually on TBS, TVLand, or The WB.

Well I can think of a few sports channels such as TBS, HDnet channels, NFL network, ESPN2, universal, and in my area, UPN is broadcast OTA in HD, but comcast is not carrying it yet. I think since most of these channels are already being carried by Comcast, I would hope to see these on their lineup, or my areas lineup within the next year

Why is it that no one from Comcast knows anything . Is it possible that they really were told exactly what HD channels are coming , but then a man in a white coat came in and sprayed some sort of vapor that wipes out thier memory ?

I'm guessing that lack of honest and accurate communication is one of the biggest beefs I hear/see about Comcast. Yeah, their prices are high and they treat us like the monopoly they are, but people don't like it when they get the feeling they're not being told "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth".

p.s. I think I've had some of that vapor, except it was in liquid form and only lasted about one evening....

Yeah in the Seattle Washington area we are supposed to see our Broadband speeds go from 3mb to 6 mb and all of the analog stations simulcast in SD on the 28th of September

Will stand by to be amazed. Comcast has been quiet on this but some Comcast employees in the area have been upgraded to do testing.

The other rumor is that Comcast wants to do away with analog in 2006 but needs a strategy for dealing with all of the customers with analog sets (fee based converters?? converters part of existing service??)
