Default I have a Motora Comcast box model DCT2244

My first post. I hear everyone refer to the comcast Motorola box model DCT 6412. Can anyone tell me about the DCT 2244 if it is more advanced than the DCT 6412 as I am planning on getting an HD TV and am trying to do some homework. Thank you.

The 2244 is from a different company (SA). Which CAN be used depends on the headend system of YOUR system... it will be either/or... boxes are supplied thru your local cableco, not purchased by user.

I am really a noobie and excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by "it can be used on the headend sytem of YOUR system........." I only have a regular Sony hooked up to coax right now and plan on getting a HDTV for my basement and getting my cable line put into the basement. I am assuming that Comcast will supply me with a similar cable box to the one I currently have which is the Motorola 2244. How could 2244 be from a different company SA when it says Motorola on the label? Can I request a top of the line box or is the 2244 a top of the line box?

ok the headend is basically a computer that controlls the set top boxes. You cant really ask for a top of the line box when they only have one type. If you can send me your zip code, i might be able to locate what set top box you have available in your area. The 6412 is a DVR set top box and the 2244 isnt mentioned anywhere on Motorola's website. The only non DVR unit is the 6200.

Scientific Atlanta has a 2200 series set top box, but they are non HD.

The 2244 is Motorola's OLD, OLD, non HD, non DVR box. Had it years ago. If you order a DVR with your HD service, you'll more than likely get a Motorola 6412, since you currently have a moto box.

Mike, I live in Plainfield, NJ which is only 70 or so miles from your neck of the woods. My cable experience with Comcast has been spotty-depends on who they sent. When I finally get my HDTV (probably 2 mos or so), I guess I will call Comcast and ask for the latest model box for HD and have them run the cable into the basement and hope that they connect the TV properly (gulp). Anything you recommend I do differently when I deal with Comcast for the hook up.

its a simple thing to run cable. Offer food and drink and be nice. Nice works. If you think he is doing something wrong, ask. Ask for for the senior member of the team.

Scientific Altanta has the 3250HD set top box which replaces the 3100HD set top box, and the 8000HD DVR set top box which Comcast uses.

The Motorola DCT 5100 and the Motorola DCT 6200 cable boxes are in your area . The DVR set top boxes are the Motorola DCT 6412 and the Motorola DCT 6208

thank you-one last item, what is the difference between a cable box and a DVR set top box-- that the DVR box gives me access to HDTV? If so and I have a choice which one is preferred? Thanks for your patience with a noobie to the world of HDTV.

both provide HD channel viewing, only the DVR allows you to record HD content to play back at a later time. A DVR( Digital Video Recorder) is the same as TiVo and a ( PVR) Personal Video Recorder.

A DVR is similar in function only to TIVO. I know from personal experience comcast dvr while servicable can't hold a candle to TIVO....

I also have the comcast dvr service and i know its not like the TiVo , even though comcast is going to be updating the entire service when they use TiVo software on the DVR set top boxes.

I used TiVo as an example because since TiVo is so widely known, he would put two and two together and identify it as a DVR unit.

Default Motorola DCT2244 - Owners Manual?

Comcast just installed a couple of these at my folks house. I have a 80GB Philips DVR up there that I use for recording. The unit is non-proprietary and functions basically like a VCR. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to hook it up so that I can record one channel while the folks watch another one. Is this box designed to screw people into having to get a DVR from Comcast?

Any CBL STB/DVR that you buy has to have a slot for a CableCard. Does your STB have this?

As far as I know there are only 2 STB/DVR's for sale that have this:

TIVO
MOXI

Motorola does not sell their equipment to consumers.
