Have you been living under a rock????

Comcast has been saying for YEARS that their signal is changing and you need their box to keep the channels you used to have.

I don't even have Comcast and I've known about it for a long time.

Ow man not everyone lives and breathes technical hardware. Yes comcrap is moving to a digital settop box and according to my threatening letter my date is may 30th for service to end. So you will have to make a decision whether to go direct tv or dish or stay with comcrap. Now that the reason to stay with comcrap is over I think im going satelite. As you can see I dont like comcrap very much not from a TV standpoint but a customer service failure.

Yes. Get a Comcaset Set Top Box. That's the only way.

Did you try deleting all the channels previously scanned and re-scanning since they seem to have moved to new channel locations?

I was not sure if one would need the digital box seeing how there is a digital tuner in the television....but no Comcrap/Comcast says I can get a "free" digital converter box...why would I need a digital converter box if I already have a digital tuner stumped them on that one....looking at satellite now.....keep internet sign some stupid one or twi year agreement see what happens....gonna surf DTV and Dish to figure out wich one would be the best...No ATT Uverse or FIOS where I am....

I assume that this is the same reason that I lost my HD channels on my tvs not hooked up to a cable box? Such as:

Channel 2 : NBC
Channel 2-1 : NBC HD
Channel 11 : CBS
Channel 11-1 : CBS HD

Default comcast

I was receiving (still have some channels) free cable at my unit. I hae a sub for phone and internet. {my gf and I switch sub when promotion expires}. Once we canceled tv but it was never disconnected. so, took advantage of phone and internet 6 month promotion. However, we started loosing some channels....yes TLC! I have scanned to see if it will be a possibility of channel rearrange...but no.

does that means I will need to start looking for a new promotion? should I try a digital box or what? Thanks for the advice

People like you are the very reason cable companies are encrypting those channels and restricting reception to customers who are renting equipment from the cable company (converters or cable cards). The cable company has to pay monthly fees to every channel on their system (even many of the local channels) and the owners/stockholders have a tendency to fire company officers who don't take measures to collect sufficient revenues (subscriber fees) to cover expenses.

It's less expensive for a cable company to remotely activate/deactivate encrypted channels on an addressable rental converter than sending out a technician to disconnect the household coax feed or install a filter to block the signal. There's also problems with people breaking into distribution stands to bypass filters and reconnect feeds to households that aren't paying for service.

By the way: "Free" converters are no more free than many cell phones. They are merely a service you are paying for with your monthly subscription fee that isn't itemized on your bill. Be glad if the cable company allows you to pick up and drop off converters at a walk up service center. The first converters I rented were equipped with a collar around the input connector that made it impossible to detach the feed with your fingers or an ordinary wrench.

So the fact I lost channel 13 hd is because of all this? If I get a 3rd box do I have to pay a monthly fee? I have boxes on 2 tvs but don't want to have to add another rental fee

Probably, if they are now encrypting the HD channels. Are you saying you lost 13 HD Channels? Or you lost Channel 13? Is Channel 13 a local Channel, like NBC or ABC?

I lost channel # 13 which is ABC local. I don't get it in hd anymore. Now in its place there is a local 13 weather show. The hd channel was 13.1 do you think they moved it to another channel?
