Default Brand New Toshiba HDTV only displaying in 480i???

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting here and my first time working with High Def so please bare with me. I recently purchased the Toshiba Regza 46XV645U 46" HDTV this past Saturday. On Sunday (yesterday), we swapped our standard cable box for a High Def one (Time Warner) which included a 6' high speed HDMI cable.

When I hook everything up and flip to an HD Channel, my TV is displaying that 480i is currently viewed (I thought I would be seeing in 1080p). I went into the User Setting and tried to change it to 1080p but after going back to the HD Channel, the 480i remains. It looks grainy. Is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks.

Oh, the HD Cable Box is a Motorola DCX3200

Thanks...

Your TV always displays what it receives at its native resolution of 1080p. When it indicates 480i it is telling you the format of the signal it is receiving from the cable box. You need to make sure that your cable box is set up correctly.

Thanks Brian! I just realized that I had both co-axial and HDMI cable attached to the TV. Also, I had "Cable/Antennae" chosen instead of HDMI 1!!! Now I see a BIG difference and it displays 1080i 16:9 on the screen. My TV says its a 1080P but I guess 1080i is the highest it will pick up from the box. Thanks for the help!!!!!!

Right. Currently no cable company is sending 1080p down the line. The best you will get is 1080i/720p...
