Time Warner won't pay the local stations for the HD feed. It's a contract negotiation thing - one wants too much money, the other refuses to pay.

For a long time, Sinclair Broadcasting wouldn't agree to Time-Warner cable carrying the HD signals of our local ABC and Fox stations owned by Sinclair. TWC's position was that they shouldn't have to pay for a free locally broadcast signal, and Sinclair maintained that Warner cable shouldn't charge extra and make profit from a signal that should be free. It was a classic faceoff by two corporate giants with attitude, with the losers being the subscribers. It lasted something like 4 years.

The funny thing is that Time Warner doesn't charge extra to carry HD channels. It is free as part of their digital cable package.

I saw this post in an earlier thread, word for word. Fbazzi, I guess you are new at this. You should not make the same post twice. Welcome to High Def Forum.

They may not now, but they did 5 years ago when this whole thing started.
