Default Comcast Installation Fees

Checking on the comcast website it says $99 to install a simple cable modem, which would take me about 45 seconds. You have to select this option when setting up your installation, is there any way around this?

No, this fee wasn't for renting one, it was for the installation.

My local MSO is doing away with self installs because of the large percentage of service calls that follow a failed self install. Modems are more sensitive to signal issues that tv. Just because you have the ability to plug it in, doesnt mean you have the ability to make sure its getting the right amount of signal. And usually when it doesnt, for what ever reason, the customer always blame the cable company for low signal. Pay the install, this way if anything goes wrong, you have someone to blame..
