1080i Picture Distortion?

Okay I have Mediacom Cable and their HD box lately I have noticed on my TV when I am watching the HD channels they are boradcast in 1080i well the 1080i signal seems to letterbox all 4 corners of the screen a few mm and its kind of annoying.

So I was messing around with the HD box settings menu and I noticed these small letterboxing issues only appear when the signal gets output to 1080i, if I dissalow 1080i broadcast through the setup menu and only allow 720/480p the picture shrinks perfectly to fit the screen.

But what I was curious about is as to why this would do that , in 1080i distorts the picture a little and 720p is perfect fit to screen picture. I am using a Vizio VO32LF with the Mediacom HD box I believe it is a PACE.

That is a setting in your Mediacom box. Make sure it (not your TV) is set to 16x9 and 1080i. After that, check the aspect, zoom or whatever it might be labeled on the remote for the Mediacom box. Push that button until the picture fits properly.
