What is HD?

I have an HD ready tv that I bought a few years back. Before, I was subscribing HD Cable so it was fine. Now I have a Samsung HD tuner only since the tv didn't have no tuner with it. I don't have HD cable anymore. I want to watch regular cable on my tv. Is it possible to do it and what do I need to do? I can get local HD channels vial my HD tuner. The tuner box has an option of scanning cable channels ie...irc, hrc, std cables but when I scan, nothing comes up. Does anyone know whats wrong? I read this thing a lot with QAM tuner. Do I need that?

If your tv is HD ready you shouldn't have to use a tuner.

well, to my understanding, hdtv's are hdtv's cause they either need a service provider who has a box like satellite or cable hd boxes to watch hd tv. or you would need a tuner box that can be hooked up rabbit ears for hd viewing cause they have a built in tuner. my doesn't have a built in tuner. that's why i needed to buy one. my tv doesn't have an coaxial plug. most older hdtv's didn't always come with them. now they almost all the time come with them. i just don't know the difference really between the tuners. although i have a samsung tuner DTB-H260F but this doesn't allow me to watch any cable. i scan my tuner for cable and air and doesn't give me any channels. not sure why? anybody knows why?

So I guess your HDTV is actually a monitor type. What manufacturer and model HDTV do you have...
Did check to make sure your Samsung tuner is connected to the cable outlet and tight? See page 13 of the User Manual. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/t...il&tab=support If you plug in a regular TV to the cable outlet do you see channels? Did you connect your Samsung tuner to the HDTV via either HDMI or component cables? See page 14 of the User Manual. Did you select on the TV the correct input, ie. either HDMI or component input?

Your unit is indeed a monitor. This means you will need a cable/satellite receiver with composite/component/HDMI/etc. to connect from the receiver to the monitor. This is pretty common and you should not worry...
