Default Bright house Networks analog channels will change to digital

I found out from cable Bright house networks (Detroit metro area) that by end of Aug 05 all the analog channels will be converted to digital quality. no more fuzzy analogs.

i asked BHN, do i need a box for the digital, according to BHN there is no box needed, i do think one need a box to view digital channels, but on the other side if everyone needed a box what will happen to people who have only basic cable, i don't think BHN has capacity to give everyone digital box.

Unless you've got a QAM capable digital tuner, and probably CableCard, you DO need a digital cable box...

Comcast is pushing the digital transition here by simply discontinuing all analog premium channels... so anyone that desiring movie channels MUST convert to digital. They're also in the process of duplicating all analog channels on the digital tier - which will give better quality in the short term and pave the way for elimination of all analog. It's one way to ease into the transition & avoid the huge job of supplying all customers with digital STBs at once.

Eventually, and not all that long from now, everyone without a digital tuner will need an STB... I'm sure part of the logic is to reduce theft of services.

Default Analog to Digital on Comcast

So you are suggesting that Comcast will be running some channels (or perhaps all) in both analog and digital during the change over period? Do they have the bandwidth?

Yes, during the switchover the analog channels will be duped to the digital tier before the analog is turned off... they can fit 4-6 SD digital channels in the bandwidth of one analog channel, so it doesn't take as much space as you might think...
