Default Mediacom Cable Box Balky or Other

My first post to this excellent forum(s)

Background Info:

Mediacom is my cable provider.
My cable boxes are the Motorola DCH 3416
My remotes are the Universal Electronics Atlas DVR/PVR 5-Device. These are new remotes. They were changed out from my older model remotes which also had the same problem as below.

My cable box menu for the past several months has been balky at times. It has become progressively worse.

When I press the menu button the menu may not appear. I note that when I press the button that the remote “says” it is sending to the cable box but the cable box’s tiny blue light by the lower right side of the time of day does not light. I may have to continually repress the button for the cable box light to display and my menu to appear.

This problem seems to occur with all menu selections. Or when going thru the guide multiple presses to proceed to the programs may end up with nothing happening then all of a sudden the box catches up and will rapidly proceed forward.

This problem occurs on both of my cable boxes. Mediacom has checked line strength at my house and found nothing wrong. Tech said it may be a server problem.

Also, a friend a half mile away using the same cable provider and DVR box experiences the same problems.

To me, with limited knowledge how cable providers send their programs and menu/guides to my cable box, it seems that the problem is someplace before the signal reaches my box. A bandwidth problem, server problem etc—I just don’t know.

Note: I believe Mediacom in my area increased internet base download speeds to all subscribers at no additional cost. I use Qwest DSL so not sure of above. In the past I was informed my Mediacom Internet subscribers that at high peak use periods there internet slowed.

If anyone could enlighten me as to what this problem might be it would be greatly appreciated. Then if it is not fixable I just could move on and live with it.

Thanks!

Default Mediacom

Yes, this is a continuing problem with Mediacom. I had them as my main provider for several years, and experienced the same thing. So, after many techs coming to the house, lack of customer support, few HD offerings and the cable going out every time someone on my street fired up their microwave oven, I finally switched to DISH, but kept the basic cable as a back up. As far as I know, they have never fixed this problem( nor any other problems ) in my area, either.

Default Could the cable box contribute to the balky problem

I've recently noted that when my menu is balky, that at times when I want to delete a recorded program that I may have to hit the "X" multiple times to delete the program. Perhaps if I had waited a ten seconds between hitting the delete button multiple hits may not have been necessary?

Any further thoughts? Perhaps I just should exchange out the box and see if that helps.
