Default Rogers cable & DTV ready TV question

Hi all,

Please forgive this newbie question:

I have basic cable, and am being forced by Rogers (my cable provider) to switch to digital cable. They want me to rent one of their set-top boxes, but I'm wondering if my DTV tv needs it? In other words, I'm wondering if I can forgo using the set-top box because my TV already has a digital tuner in it.

Does this make sense??

cheers guys...

It makes sense.

The digital TV world is full of new terms and meanings.

In a nutshell, you will need to get the box from the cable company if you want to keep getting most of the channels. Your TV can pick up digital signals, but not on a cable, with an antenna.

I'm sure someone will give you a more detailed answer, but in general, you need the cable box.

Do you know if your TV has an internal QAM tuner? If it does, you should be able to get your locals in HD. Most likely, you will need a cable card or set-top box from Rogers to receive channels like ESPN-HD, TNT-HD, etc. Most cable companies encrypt those channels.
