Default Panasonic BD60K

OK, played my first BR on the BD60k. 1/4 and 3/4 of the way through it started to pixel and froze. I rewound it and it does it at the same spots. Is this caused by a bad disk? I rented it from blockbuster. If not, what can remedy this issue? I checked my firmware and it's version 1.1.

my guess is that the disc is scratched or dirty. any DVD/CD will start breaking up or just freeze at the same spot if its scratched like that so Im sure Bluray is the same thing. go back and see if they have another disc of the same movie.

Try running the data side face up under really hot water for about 30 seconds and that should remove any dirty smears off the disc when you wipe it with a clean (and soft) lint free cloth/towel.

If it happens at the same point in a movie then it is the disc causing the problem, not the player.

I figured it wouldn't hurt to update my players firmware from 1.1 to 1.5 but the download link on the website doesn't work I shot them an e-mail to see what the problem is.

Try this link:

http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c...d60/index.html

It will take you to version 1.7 which is newer, and should work.

Thanks, PFC5. When you update firmware does it change any of the settings I did before in the BP setup menu?

Yes it did, thanks. I wonder why the link at panasonic dot com which was version 1.5 doesn't work. I also just found out that I am unable to download it if I'm using windows vista Here is what it says........

The firmware update disc requires to be created with ISO9660 format. In case you are creating the disc on a Windows Vista PC, Windows Vista standard writing application does NOT support ISO9660 format. Please create with a supporting writing software.

I guess I will call them to send me a disk.

I found the link didn't work properly for the latest version of my BD35 and posted a link to where I found the newest version directly. Panasonic needs to fix this and update the website faster IMO. They release the updates as fast as could ever be expected, but what good does it to do this if they do not provide updated links to the latest updates?

Extracting the zipped file should not be effected by running Vista, and creating a CD-R disc should be possible through Vista itself also.

You would think. I did ask them about that and they have had some issues with vista, not all but some Didn't want to take the chance so I will just wait for the CD in the mail.

I think the point that you are missing is that Vista natively doesn't support that ISO format. Another CD/DVD writing program will like this one for example (which I use all the time) - http://www.cdburnerxp.se/download.php

This is one of the best CD/DVD burning programs available and it is free...

Just an update. I played my other rental last night and had zero problems so I think the other disk is either dirty or scratched. Loves2Watch, I will try that software but will just wait for the CD in the mail from Panasonic, thanks.
