Do you have cable or dsl? If you have cable and are only getting 3.6-3.8 then you are being throttled.

Unfortunately some products do require faster speeds but that is the first I have seen of that specific speed requirement. Is that described in the literature? I have a BD300 and have never seen it. If you are using wireless, have you tried an ethernet cable? Do you mean you can't stream HD video or can't download anything period?

I have DSL and I just checked my speed, I knew I wasn't anywhere near 4 Mbps. My BD300 downloads all updates and streams YouTube just fine and this is my speed test result:

Quote:
Your Throughput

Download = 1.294 Mbps
I assumed I can't stream Netflix HD acceptably and haven't even used that feature but as far as I know, I can do everything else the player can do over the internet.

Chris,

What did you use to test your speed?

I bought an LG 370. while it was a fine bluray player, I found the netflix and internet very slow and choppy. the 370 was wired. I got a better reception from the roku machine when it was wireless. I am not sure if its anything with the speed of the net. something about the player that did not work.
I ended up taking it back. I stuck with the roku machine. I didn't need 3 bluray players. was fine with 2.

This site, with the desktop hardwired and this laptop over wireless. I don't know if there is a method to test speed with the players and I haven't tried that but I can't see how it beats what I get with a PC.

This was my test result using this laptop over wireless just now:

Did we ever get an answer as to what Garycal couldn't do with his BD390 connected?

I too am interested in replacing this player for my PS3. I'm not a gamer and hate that there's no IR.

My internet results are:
Download = 8.298 Mbps
Upload = 2.051 Mbps

Default Bd390

I just purchased a BD390 and all seems fine except when I try to play a show from either of my DirectV HD DVR's. They both show up in the media section of the blu ray menu. They see the playlists of each DVR and all the shows but they will not play anything. The screen just stays black and eventually times out.
Any suggestions

Thanks

Default Problem in Network connection with BD390

I hope that this is the correct forum to ask this question, but I have gone through a bunch of forum threads and have yet found anything close to answering my particular problem. I hope one of you guys can help.

I recently purchased a BD390, which works great playing BluRay DVD, etc. However, as soon as I try to set it up to connect to my home network, EITHER wired or wireless, the player will lock-up then power off. I have to either unplug the wired, or turn off my Router (for wireless setup), to keep the unit from accessing my network to avoid a lock-up.
I am using a Netgear WPN824 wireless router. I am not sure of the details DHCP, or DNS, or IP setup details that I may need to get this guy to work. My home network is setup nicely with multiple PC, wireless and a ReadyNAS Duo all routed together using a Gigabit Switch from the Netgear Router. I added the switch mainly because the router did not have enough ports, but I doubt that the switch is my issue.
Any ideas??? I just cannot understand why a router setting would cause the BD390 to lock-up.

Thanks ahead of time.

I have used mainly the "Dynamic" IP and "Auto" DNS Server settings in the BD390 to connect to my Router. When logged onto my router, I can refresh the "Connected Devices" and I can see the BD390, via its MAC address, connected as 10,0,0,3 while it is locked-up.
I do have the router set for DHCP Server, and the DNS address to be Auto from ISP. I have tried to set the DNS as Manual, but did not really know what to set here and found that I lost connection to the internet by this change, so I went back to Auto from ISP.

Here is the difference between the BD 370 and BD 390. The 390 had a 12 bit video DAC while the 370 has a 10bit and its faster too. Here are the specs. I have the 390 and it is amazing. I made an ajustment to my router tonight and the speed went from 110mbps to 270.
I have the Dlink dir655 the setting is in the setup page for wireless it called channelwidth by default it is set to 20 I changed it to 20\40 and bingo my speeds more than doubled. I hope this helps

Well I had to return the BD 390 and after much thought I decided to get the PS3 instead. The wireless card and the internal network card seemed to have died at the same time after working perfectly for 2 weeks. I have to say after updating the firmware on the ps3 the blueray player to me looks just as good as the 390 and that is not a knock on the 390 as it was a great player. He is the big difference, the networking in the ps3 is far better in my opinion. The lg 390 wireless card picked up 1 other network and it was the house right next to mine and had a very week signal. The ps 3 picked up 7 networks all with strong signals. So anyway it would be hard for me to recommend this player due to it's short lifespan and high price.

Drigg: I experience the same problem. I connect to my home-network via wire and get everything up on the screen just as I wanted. Both from pc and NAS. I start pay the movie-files and it works fine. Then all of a sudden the film freezes and the BD 390 shuts down. Irrespective of from where the file steems. I connect my PS3 to the exact csame network and it the exact same files without any problem. It seems the BD390 has some sort of weakness in streaming content. Or is it just mine?

I to have issues playing files over my wired home network. While I can stream Netflix movies at very lo-res (1.5Mbps DSL) the BD390 does not act well with other ethernet devices--it sees them and let's me select files to play but many times it simply times out or returns a message that it can't play the (compatible) file. Frustrating :-/
