are you bitstreaming the audio, or is the Oppo decoding the audio and sending PCM to your Denon receiver via HDMI?

I will test both the analog 7.1 outputs and the fiber optical output, then I will judge which sounds cleaner and not louder. I will however buy a new Denon unit (THX Ultra2) if and when lossless audio see's more than a subtle improvement with Blu-Ray video and music discs. I love my Denon receiver!

The Oppo is doing the decoding. My Denon cannot decode the HD formats.

What do you think would account for improved audio? Neither player is processing the audio. They simply decode to PCM and send that to your receiver where all of the processing is done. How would any differences be introduced?

So the BD60 is the player to shoot for in their lineup? Is there a replacement planned anytime soon?

It just came out a month ago, so it will likely be it until the end of the year I would think, but by then it will be hard to find like the BD35 was for the 2+ months before the replacement was released. My advice. Look for the best price now and just BUY IT! If you wait too long, you will just have to start all over again with the replacement model.

This is WHY I think it is simply that the Oppo is sending out a higher voltage signal compared to the BD35 myself which gives a louder volume level.

That's an excellent point. Having to use analogs vs. HDMI, with 80hz as the xover point (vs. 100-120Hz in other players) is a 'system advantage' specific to my setup..nothing to do with 'improved signal quality', per se.
However, the dedicated 2 channel analog audio from the Oppo is superior in my experience against other players.

It could be that I just "wanted " to hear an improvment. Most likey it is what PFC said in that the Oppo is just sending a more amplified signal to the Denon than what the D35 was sending.

Yes, those are both likely possibilities. Wish fulfillment and a louder output could easily account for what you observed. Thanks.

Thanks for those pictures. I am going to pull the trigger on one of those. But I have to wait until it is released to the public! That's OK. Hopefully I can get one in June or July.

I haven't popped in an SD video yet... hooked on The Tudors... dammit

I will be testing the upscaling soon.

So far, I see nothing but a great player. I am pleased with my purchase.
