New to HD, and new to living overseas. I have a Sharp LC-46A63M (multi-system, multi-voltage, 1080p, 46in, LCD) and a Panasonic DMP-BD35K blu ray player that I brought with me. Luckily, the TV I happened to have is working out fine, but I want to double check on the player before I apply power that I've stepped down from 220-240V 50Hz to 110-120 50Hz . I sent a query to Panasonic, but I figure the their cookie cutter response to be "we strongly recommend you only power the device according to the stated specifications of 120V 60Hz" will take a while to gin up. So I thought this forum would be a good place to look since it strongly influenced both my choice of player and TV selection. Essentially, what are the expected effects of plugging in the player, which requires 60Hz, into a step down outputting 110-120V at 50Hz. Am I just looking at slower mechanized functioning of the port ejecting/accepting the disc, or will there be jumps/flickering in the picture/audio quality, or worst case completely fry the player. I'm crossing my finger for good news, but bracing for the worst which is a new player after a series of pops/explosions....or coughing up dough for a full AC power converter.

you could get a fuse protected step down converter. They sell them for Computers and basically the bluray is a computer of sorts. I am surwe you can find one with a warranty to cover issues with the bluray. Is there an electronic shop close by that you can visit and ask a local's input? they might have run into this issue previously...

I spent 9 years living in Europe, and I can say with 100% certainty that you won't have any major problems with your equipment when running on a transformer. 50Hz will affect clocks, but that's about it (clocks on VCRs, TVs, etc, will run slow if they don't switch from 60 to 50Hz).

Just wanted to pass along a thanks for the info. Panasonic was no help. But based off of the above, I went ahead and plugged it in and its running fine. Thanks.
