Default Just got my Panasonic BD35

Hey all,

Thanks for those who help out here a lot. I just picked up my Panasonic BD35 from the store I work at. It's been flawless so far. Any tips or tricks I should know about? How about video and audio settings? Currently, I set video cinema (better blacks) and I'm bitstreaming standard Dolby and DTS as my receiver is older.

I've only had the player a couple of days, so I'll tweak with it more after my finals.

Awesome! I know you will enjoy it. Give us a review after you watch a good movie.

I just calibrated mine using the DVE basics blue ray disk. I highly reccommend it. I watched Iron man and switched back and fourth between settings and there was a MASSIVE difference. I was following TweakTV settings from a different size of the same model1. But the new settings are way better.

BD35 has been working fantastic for me and I haven't even upgraded the firmware. (that part didn' work so fantastic.)

Tell us how Iron Man looked with your system.

I found for my 50pz80u plasma the settings at tweaktv were pretty far off what they should be set for myself. The DVE settings worked much better for me. I am starting to lose faith in recommending that site for settings at this point.

I got a new onkyo 606 receiver that has the new Dolby and DTS HD
sound formats. ? I still leave the panny, 35 set to bit stream.
This is confusing. Is this correct.

If you have it set for bitstream output over HDMI the new receiver will decode it, but it will drop down to standard DD/DTS if you enable the secondary audio feature in the player setup to ON to do the PIP on BD discs, but the HD audio indicators will light up when sec/audio in the player is set to off.

I would suggest if you will use secondary audio frequently, it is best to just set the HDMI output on the player to PCM and let the player do the decoding still, since then you WILL get HD audio without having to go into the player menu to shut off sec/audio.

Hope this helps!

Now that you say it the 606 does says HD audio on and I am using HDMI cables and do have the secondary audio off.
Good answer thank you.

Welcome to the world of BD-Java.. it takes a while to load up because it has to "boot" up, check DRM, BD-Live.. then go to menu or.. gah.. previews

I won't say how I thought it looked (okay it looked great) I'll tell you what my friends who saw the setup for the first time saturday night said when I put in Iron Man as a demo disk. Here is a direct quote from my friend. "HOLY SHIT I need to get my system setup like this."

He actually has a year or so older Samsung 46" LCD so he should be able to come close and I'm gonna help him install all the stuff if he does decide to get a system put in.

I don't mind the load times. It's faster than some other players out there and the quality of the BD35 is second to none.

I do have to do the new firmware upgrade though. I haven't had any issues of disc compatibility or anything, though I only have three Blu-ray discs thus far (Dark Knight, Wanted, Wall-E).

I bought this player for my dad for Christmas. I couldn't wait to give it to him so I set it up for him last Sat. We sat down and watched TDK and the old man was in awe. I don't think I've ever heard so many thank yous from him in my life. I'm going to have to pick up one for myself now. (sorry PS3 you have been good to me)

Yep, that's the kind of reaction I would expect from someone seeing your excellent system.

Does this Panasonic Blu-Ray player have a screensaver mode? For example, if I hit pause on the movie to go eat or will the image just stay on it and burn in my Panasonic Plasma.
