Default HELP Please Panasonic bd35 Networking problems

Hello All,

I just got a Panasonic BD Live player and a Netgear 5 port switch today. My idea was to connect my new Blue Ray player to the switch and also connect my Apple AirPort Express to the switch. The switch then would connect to my cable modem. The problem is that if I have the AirPort plugged in to the switch at the same time as my Blue Ray player then Blue Ray player says the connection fails. If I unplug the AirPort and let the Blue Ray player connect to the internet it works fine. However, then when I try and plug my Air Port back into the switch, the airport will not work. It seems like it is either one or the other and I thought the whole point of a switch was now I can do both? Do I need to mess with any of the DHCP/IP settings on either? Thanks for your help

Are you doing this for the firmware update?
If you are, make sure you need the update. Go the Panny site, itwill tel you how to do it.

http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c...ica/index.html

I could not get the update via my Fios router. I had to dl from the site, and decompress onto a disc, and put that disc into my BD35. I gave you the link for this.

Hope this helps.

The first thing you have to do is to make sure your switch is working. Did you hardwire connect the switch to your router and setup the security and such? Until that is setup properly, the BD player will never connect.

I have a 4 port bridge/switch in my HT room and it's been setup and working for a long time now. When I connected my BD35 to it, went into the network setup in the BD35 menu, all of the IP info was already there, I just selected OK and let it run with the update.

I did not set up anything with the switch because it is a very basic switch. All it is is 5 ports and a power cable, the Netgear FS105. I did not need to set up any security with it because I am going from my cable modem to the switch (for the internet), and then from the switch to my apple airport + my blue ray player. The airport is where I have all the security set for my wireless, but all of that takes place after it goes threw the switch.

I could get the Panasonic Blue Ray player to connect to the internet, its just once I added the apple express wireless router into the switch it was either or, either I could get the Blue Ray to connect or the wireless router but not both. Thanks again for your help.

That is the problem then. Without a router assigning an separate IP address then you can only hook one device at a time. Now if your cable modem also acts as a router since it apparently has WiFi support, then you need to enable DHCP in the modem so that it can assign IP addresses automatically for additional devices hooked up.

Yeah I am just going from a normal Arris cable modem (that has one cat 5 output on the back) into the switch does this mean I need to buy a switch/router? and not just a switch?

Yes you need something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WRT54G..._ob_e_title_1#

Then you can go on the internet with your laptop anywhere in the house AND use multiple devices connected to the net at the same time. You will also get firewall protection with it to help avoid hackers getting into your computer also.
