Default PS3 Or Panasonic DMP BD35

I'm in the market for a Blu Ray player.

1st - I found a 80G PS3 console at http://capegame.com/product115.html for $250. Here's the catch - I can pay only via Moneygram to a Canadian website. Has anyone bought their PS3 from this website?

2nd - Since the Canadian website sounds kinda hoaky, I'm leaning towards the Panny BD35 mainly because CNET thinks it is an excellent buy. I've read that PQ and audio is superb. How about upconversion?

Personally, I like the PS3 for everything else it has to offer. Gaming aside, its much more then just a blu-ray player.

I agree. And for $250, it's a steal. I just don't know how reliable that Canadian website is. Everyone else sells it for around $400. But for less than $250, I will consider the Panny BD35. Gaming is not all that important to me.

I believe the Moneygram deal is a scam, there is no reason to sell an 80GB PS3 for $250. I would purchase the PS3 instead of the Panasonic DMP-BD35 at current market prices about $400 and $250 respectively, the PS3 is easily worth $150 more in my opinion. The PS3 does more and is a proven performer. I do believe the DMP-BD35 is a good player and a good value, but I haven't seen anything like the PS3, especially if you want many of the things it does.

You can get the BD35 with 4 select Warner BD movies for around $210.00 with this offer:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...rd_i=390987011

Just remember to add the "BLUWA100" code to see the price drop $100.00. The exact price depends on which movies you select.

So if you deduct the value of the 4 movies, you can get the BD35 for less than $140.00 for the player itself. That puts the difference at about $260.00 in price and if someone is not a gamer, then the BD35 is likely a better deal for them.

I took advantage of this deal yesterday. Not to highjack this thread but with the BD35 do I need a SD card for BD live?

I wish they had better movie selections. I've seen those movies already. Still a good deal though.

Yes. You need a 1GB minimum SD card to use BD-Live. The 1GB memory requirement is not built into the player and most BD players seem to require this BTW. A select few higher priced BD players have the 1GB built-in.

Enjoy the player!

If I was just now in the market for a BD player, I would get the BD35 over the PS3, knowing what I know now. If you are only wanting the player for BD playback, the PS3 is much more cumbersome than the BD35. I have both and GREATLY prefer the BD35.. in fact, I just bought a second BD35 for my bedroom!

Many here love the PS3 because it is more than just a BD player... it's aslo a computer/media center/gaming system. I bought mine for the gaming/BD playback but have never really liked it for a few reasons... it is loud, creates a lot of heat, has no infrared remote control built-in (had to buy an attachment to get LIMITED functionality from an IR remote), the shape of the player doesn't fit into my HT rack very well. Yes, it is a good BD player.

That's my (for what it's worth)

I was in the market for a new BD player too, trying to decide between the the sony 350 and the pan 35. After lurking around here for a few weeks, I decided on the pan 35 and was just waiting for a good price. I missed out on the black Friday deals but I figured that prices would come down again before Christmas or right after. I was all set to take advantage of Amazon's deal mentioned above when I read a post about saving $150 off of a playstation 3 by signing up for a playstation credit card. for $ 350 plus 40 s&h I got the playstation 3 160 gb with a game and a wireless controller (could have gotten the 80 gb for $250). For about $40 more you can get a much more powereful piece of equipment. I ordered mine Sunday so we'll see how long it takes to get here. Now I'm going to have to figure out how to get my unvirsal remote to work with the playstation 3. The offer expires Dec 31 I think.

I can't post the link but if you look in the thread with the title "Good deal on ps3?" you will find it.

Many here love the PS3 because it is more than just a BD player... it's also a computer/media center/gaming system. I agree. I do use my PS3 as my BD player, but the points are valid. However, I found no reason to buy the IR adapter and remote unless you really wanted to use a universal remote with it. I love my PS3 Bluetooth remote that runs around $20 because there's no line-of-sight problems, it turns the PS3 on and operates absolutely everything.

That aside, I would suggest taking advantage of the Amazon offer and getting the BD35 for $200 (if you select free super saver shipping).

Or you could check out the Sony offer for $150 off a PS3 and a buy-1-get-1 BD movie offer. The catch is, you have to apply for a Sony PlayStation credit card (new card in the Sony card family announced around Thanksgiving) and use that card to buy the PS3 and movies on the Sony website or wait to receive the card and buy it in a store. They claim they'll credit you $150 on your statement if you choose the latter.

In that scenario you would get a 40GB PS3 for $250.

If you go with a PS3, ignore the hard drive capacity. It's incredibly easy to upgrade to any size laptop hard drive later on. It's 100% Sony supported and the PS3 does everything including allowing you to backup your hard drive game saves, movies, settings, etc.

You can say that again. The PS3 does have a pretty good library if you want a gaming system and BD player. When God of War 3 comes out I will officially never have any regrets about my PS3 purchase.
