I picked up the DMP-35 and four Blu-Ray dvd's for a total of $230 shipped this evening. Unfortunately for me, Amazon has distribution centers in Kentucky so I was charged taxes...otherwise my total would have been closer to $215 for the blu-ray player and four movies.

When does it ship though? From what I saw not till mid-january. They might be that cheap in stores by then regardless. A great deal if you can actually get it.

I just made the purchase this evening and my Amazon ship date shows as December 8th for both the blu-ray player and the blu-ray dvd's.

Where did you see the January reference...I missed it totally. This info came from the slickdeals website and is getting good press. Those guys are typically thorough about what is and is not a good deal.

I tried that deal but they said the BD35 wouldn't ship until sometime between December 20 something and 1/19/09, so I convinced my local BB to not match the player price but to match the 4 free BD movie deal since I buy a lot of stuff there and they went for it. The BB price for the 4 BDs added up to ($120.00+tax=$126.00) that I got for free, but I paid about $8.00 more for the player at BB. Getting the 4 movies I got instead of being limited to that small selection was definitely worth $8.00 more to me and I got everything now.

So in the end I paid $241.85 for the BD35 in hand including tax but even at Amazon's lower BD prices they would have cost $95.00 for the same titles so I ended up with the player itself for only $146.85, AND I can still get the 2 free movies (Nightmare Before Xmas=$23.00 & Ratatouille=$20.00) in the Panasonic offer which brings the cost of the BD35 player itself down to only $103.85.

Not bad I think. I feel like it is HD DVD deals all over again now.

After I tried to cancel it, The date miraculously changed to 12/8/08 - 1/19/09 for the shipping window on the BD35 player, but they said the movies were already being processed for shipping (despite saying it would not ship until 12/8/08) so I could not cancel them, and that kept me from canceling the the BD35 either since they were a promotional deal tied together. I had to call them to cancel both the movies AND the BD35 player.

My order simply says it is shipping December 8th. If you don't live in Kentucky this deal is closer to $215 (because you don't pay tax) and you don't have to drive anywhere or negotiate with BB.

(just poking at ya)

Seriously, it still seems like a pretty strong deal. I did a bizrate and cnet review search and the cheapest the 35 pulls up across the internet is around $240 (unless from a refurbish site) and that is without getting the four Blu-Ray movie titles. Even if you don't like the blue-ray selection they are offering, you can sell the blu-rays on ebay and make back even more of your money.

Amazon doesn't charge tax to me for my state. I wanted all the movies I got in the BB deal though versus only wanting one and liking the 2nd of the 4 with 2 not being nothing but filler titles for the deal. The four BD movies I got were:

I-Robot
Wall-E - 2 disc set
Crimson Tide
Ironman - Ultimate 2 disc edition

I actually wanted all 4 of these and they were in my cart for a while waiting for a good price, and it was a 10 minute drive. I LOVE to negotiate, so it was actually fun to do that and turned out to be a win/win for me.

No question this Amazon deal is the best deal I could find right now which is WHY I ordered it before going to pickup the online purchase from BB. I was actually surprised that they took my deal, but as I said, they probably checked my rewards account and saw I buy a lot from them, which could have made the difference.

Anyway, do not forget to submit the rebate form from the Panasonic site to get those 2 other BD titles for free that I mentioned.

Will do...have a good evening.

Oh and I enjoy negotiating as well. Funny story, I went into a HH Gregg in my area seriously just looking at tvs. I was quietly trying to decide if I would want a 50" Panny THX 800U or a 58" Panny THX 800U. The sales guys there work on commission and he dropped the tv $1,000 to make the sale. Came away with $2,700 for the 58" Panny 800U, free delivery, and one year same as cash. Still haven't found one deal lower than that on the Web. Take that back, one day I saw Abe's had it for $20 bucks cheaper. I enjoyed the process and even better I am enjoying the new tv. Thus I wanted a Panny Blu-Ray to go with my Panny tv.

That is a great deal. Congrats on that. I got my 50pz80u back in 5/2008 for $1,000.00 off, but the prices are now around that price now, but at least I didn't overpay or feel I overpaid.

I love my Panny plasma too!

Damn. BD-35 is currently unavailable. Not much of a selection of BD titles left either. But good to see these deals are out there.

I would buy two of the 35k if they were in stock, but I bet their not in stock until the deal is over. Sooner then later I should be able to get me those 35k bd players for under $200

The deal runs until 12/31/08, but You should just put your order in now and you should get it by sometime in January.

The funny thing is before I canceled mine, they said the BD player would ship between 12/20/08-1/19/09, and the 4 movies would ship between 12/8-12/15/08. Then after buying it locally right after ordering, I came home to cancel the order and the movies were already being shipped and the player date changed to 12/8/08-1/19/09. I think they try o limit how many they sell in that deal per day/week and they do have them to sell myself.

I ordered a 55K on Tuesday for $319 at Amazon. Will arrive Monday. No disk deals though. It was shipped from 6thAve Electronics, but free shipping and no tax.
Most the deals seem to be around the 35 model but I need the analog outs, and since I mostly 'Netflix' not having some freebie disks is not a problem. Maybe Panny has something available, I have not even checked.
So now my Samsung 5000 becomes an HD DVD player, but I don't envision watching many more of those over the long haul.
It seems the 2 biggest negatives on either Pan model is slow loading compared to the Sony models, and especially the PS3.
And the analog audio which can be a PIA for setup but works out just fine. But PQ & SQ seem to be state-of-the-art against most anything out there now. One review said the 55K had superior audio analog components compared to the 35K. I guess that's like saying one car has an excellent spare tire compared with a car that does not have a spare tire. LOL!

So you got sucked in once again huh?

I may be interested in your Samsung 5000 down the road for HD DVD playback if you ever get rid of it, but that BD55 is a very nice player. The speed difference loading discs according to that UK loading showdown only put the disc load difference at about 7 seconds faster for the S350 (I assume the S550 also), so that is not a big deal I would think.

Check the Panasonic site as I think those 2 movies are good with that BD55 player also, but I am not sure. The audio stages for the BD55 are better because they are needed for the analog outputs. I believe the HDMI outputs have the same electronics in both models, but I am not sure. I didn't bother to check this since I have a HDMI input on my receiver. Maybe it would be better to think about upgrading that receiver soon too.

Let us know how you like the BD55 when you get a chance if you could.
