Default Bought a Blue Ray finally - Review

So I went to Bestbuy tonight and got the Panasonic BD-35 for 199.99. A better deal you could not get. I got it home, hooked it up and popped in Hell Boy II - the Golden Army. Man what an amazing difference immediately.

My reciever only has 5.1 hooked up to it so it instantly went to DTS and it sounded awesome. The Samsung 46A650 worked flawlessly with the 1080P and everything is great. I haven't installed any firmware for it yet but I'll get around to it when I need to.

Now for a comment.

I needed an HDMI cable so I picked up a 3' cable for 20 bucks in a blue package, gold plated, blah blah blah. The guy tried to sell me a cable that cost nearly as much as the player.

He proceeded to physically ARGUE with me that monster is superior product and that I'm costing myself precious megabytes in communication speed. I attempted to explain to him what I learned here about digital working or not working and drop offs but he wasn't having it.

I finally said to him "they teach you all that about monster here right?" and he said "Yeah" I said "DiD they also teach you their markup on monster is something like 100%?" he said "have a good day sir and good luck with everything."

I couldn't believe the ferver that a non commissioned salesman was putting up for a product he obviously didn't understand.

He even told me "It's his job to educate the customers" I wanted to say "How can you educate me on what you clearly don't know."

You did exactly the right thing. As long as the connectors are gold plated and it is 1.3 compatible then it doesn't really matter. I bought a 3' HDMI off eBay several months ago for less than $7 after shipping. Last month I bought a pack of three 6' HDMI cables for $9.99 with free shipping.

Damn. I just paid $230.00 online at BB's website on 12/1/08.

I was waiting for it to break $200.00 but jumped in on CyberMonday 1/23 hour before it ended. It went up more after midnight though.

I also bought the Sony S350 for $200.00 at Target that I will have to return now. I just wanted the DTS-HD MA decoding via HDMI that the S350 was missing.

I'm almos thinking they made a mistake. It rang up as 199.99 but I saw it on the website for 229. I wasn't gonna say anything though. I took it and whistled my way out of the store.

He may not be commissioned, but there may very well be incentives for units sold.. Just wondering, I bought the same Blu-Ray yesterday from Best Buy online (still need to pick it up at the store) and paid $229. (I actually paid $200 after cashing in some unused rewardzone certificates). Did you haggle the price down to $199??

Opps - I just saw your above post! Good for you!

I thought most, if not all HDMI cables being produced now were 1.3a/b compatible. Is that not the case?

There are still some cables that are not HDMI 1.3 certified. That doesn't mean they won't work, just that they aren't certified (licensing fee not paid). And BTW the a, b or possible c on the end don't mean anything as far as the cable is concerned as long as it is HDMI1.3, that's all that matters.
