Default Connectiong Blu-ray players to the Internet

I don't have a Blu-ray player and HDTV right now, but I plan on getting them around the time that Sleeping Beauty comes out on Blu-ray. Anyways, the Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray edition has this new BD Live bonus stuff. I believe the Sony PlayStation3 as well as the Sony BDP-S350 and the Sony BDP-S550 and one other Blu-ray player (that I don't think is Sony) can play the BD Live bonus stuff if I connect it to internet.

Anyways, I am kinda new to HD stuff and there is a lot that I don't know. How do I connect the Blu-ray player to the internet? We have high speed internet comcast in the office and my Blu-ray player will go in my room. Someone at Best Buy said that I could either have a connection from my Blu-ray player in my room to my internet connection in my office or that I could get a wireless router if I get a PlayStation3. I don't like the idea of a long wire going from my room to the office, so I would want to go with a wireless router or something. Is the PlayStation3 the only Blu-ray player that can be connect to the internet with a wireless router? Also is there another way to connect my Blu-ray player to the internet? I don't really need a PlayStation3, but since it's the same price as the Sony BDP-S350, I might be better off with the PlayStation3 for internet connection even if I never used it to play games.

The beauty of the PS3 is that it has built in wi-fi in addition to an ethernet jack. Whether you go with the PS3 or a stand alone player, you will still need a router to be able to distribute the connection amongst multiple devices (I assume you don't want to plug and unplug the BD player every time you want to use it).

You can get a nice Wireless G router ridiculously cheap now. If you are near a Wal-Mart:

Otherwise check out newegg:

Once you install the router you will now be able to use your broadband connection with multiple devices (i.e. computer, BD player, etc...). Like I said, the PS3 has built in wi-fi so you wouldn't need to run any cables. I don't know if you can get a wi-fi adapter for any of the stand alone players, maybe someone who knows can provide some insight on that.

I recently bought the PS3 primarily for blu ray since I already have an XBOX 360 which is my preference for gaming. I am very pleased with the PS3 though; it is fast and quiet when it comes to playing BD's.

To wirelessly connect a Blu-ray player to Internet, you need a device that may be called by many names including wireless bridge, wireless gaming adapter, wireless access point, and AP client. Even their prices vary all over since it is hard to compare. I ended up creating a page that lists all the Blu-ray wireless connection options available and their pricing.
