Default Audio Problem on Panasonic DMP-BD30K

I just brought the 30K two days ago and haven't two days of frustration on setting the audio coming out of my receiver [Onkyo HT-R520].
Frist my receiver is a older receiver but it does have standard Dolby and something called 6.1 Dolby Pro-logic IIx and DTS 96/24 [note: I'm no techy but do like to enjoy good quality sound]
My problem:
When I connect the analog audio cables [total of 6] from player to the receiver and turn off the audio portion of the HDMI from the player to my Sony LCD projector, I can only hear the stereo sound of the movie and not the dialogue between the actors. Anotherword, I can not hear what they are saying. I sound from the action i.e. cars crashing, gun shots, and drums..are very clear and seem very surround too but just the dialogue part is not audible.
[btw: I have setup on the machine both PCM and bitsteam and turn off on the secondary HDMI, but nothing seem to work]

Now hear is the twist:
When I connect the audio with a coaxial cable, I get my dialogue and the rest of the surround sound. However, I'm not sure if it true Dolby or the richest sound. Just like previous post by Woodthecrab mention, when I select Audio bottom on the blu ray player, I only have 2 chanel or the muti and not sure if the sound is truely DTS.

Help:
According to the menu on the Panasonic I should able to receive 5.1 surround sound even when I use the analog audio connection, but what happen to the sound from the dialogue?
Does it have to do with the age of my receiver? [btw: what is Prologic IIX and DTS 96/24..is that out of date]

I believed I read somewhere that if I use digital audio connection, the true HD sound will be downgraded. I know it probably make no difference on my receiver but will that have to do with the problem of not hearing the dialogue?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

I do not own this BD player, but I would try leaving the HDMI audio on since you turned it off. The setting for the analog 5.1 should be set to PCM output in the player. The BD30 does not decode any of the HD audio codecs, but it will decode standard DD 5.1 & standard DTS 5.1 too. With the analog outputs you will only get lossless sound via analog by selecting the PCM soundtrack on many BD titles (under the language option on the disc). Only BD titles with uncompressed PCM lossless soundtracks will benefit from using the analog output from this particular player because it does not decode DtHD or DTS-HD MA.

The problem is that more and more studios are moving away from PCM soundtracks so the only way to get the HD audio (lossless) with this is to get a receiver that CAN decode the HD audio formats like Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD Master Audio.

This was one of my gripes with the BD format not making it mandatory that the player decode them.

You basically have two choices if you want the HD audio going forward on BD movies that do not have the PCM soundtrack. They are; buy a new receiver that DOES decode the new HD audio or get a BD player that has analog 5.1 outputs AND also decodes the HD audio formats.

Hope this helps!

Thank you PFC5
I believed I did try to switch back to PCM and still it was given me the problem of not able to hear the dialogue of the movie [ so far, I tried the Pirates of Caribbean and 007 Casino Royale]

If that is the case, do you think it could be a bad BD that I got ?

Like I said, I can bring the dialogue sound back if I plug into the digital cable [using the coaxial connection]

I'm not studburn but I just what to know why I can't use analog audio cables to recieve 5.1 surround normally vs. using the digital cable liked the coaxial.

Thanks again and I also appreciate if anyone can chinney up/

Make sure all speakers are enabled inside the analog set up to the BD30 as the next step.

Also, when you go into the movie's language menu do these movies list a uncompressed PCM soundtrack? If not, then that is the problem. Analog outputs on this particular player will only give you 5.1 surround sound with those soundtracks, otherwise you will need to use the digital coax audio connection.

The only other alternative besides buying a new receiver with HDMI that can also decode the HD audio soundtracks (DtHD/DTS-HD MA) and send the un-decoded bitstream, would be to return the player and by a BD player that has the HD audio decoders in them.

Hope this helps!

Did you find the 6 CH Multichannel key on your HT-R520 remote? That is the only way to enable 5.1 multichannel analog inputs and disable internal processing by the receiver.

Not sure which buttom you're referring but I tried to push all the selection on the output ...i.e. cinema, game, etc. but nothing seem to work or fix the problem with not able to hear the voice of the characters in the movie [dialogue]
thanks.

Over the remote button for # 5, you will see the word "Multich". To make the button activate "Multich" instead of # 5, first press the AMP button followed by the DVD button.

Read your Instruction Manual page 12.

...you need to activate the "Multich" command from your remote which will enable the 6 multichannel inputs of your receiver. It could be pressing the AMP key then the # 5 key.
