My plasma is High Def.

PS3 going Optical into Yamaha HTR 5950 DTS HD
Good morning everyone. I hope I am posting this in the right area....
My question is this.....Since my head is only 6.1 I was wondering what I am getting(type of surround) when playing a BluRay movie that is this new DTS HD audio? Thanx so much in advance Nick |

You are just getting the standard DTS "core" at 1.5mbps when using the optical, and only 640kbps with any DD soundtracks.
To get the better sound of the HD audio formats, you NEED a HDMI receiver (and not just video pass-through) to hear them. Welcome to the forum and I hope this helps!
