Just a couple questions that petrain to what has been discussed. Is there a good thread on this forum that discusses all of the audio lingo ? PCM, bitstream, etc. From reading i gather that bitstream is compressed and becomes PCM after either your PS3 or your reciever (which ever you chose) decodes the sound. But i could be way of base haha.

Secondly i am using a Nyko dongle setup with my harmony 890 and it works pretty well other than the fact that when i tap the directional pad on the harmony the cursor tends to speed across the screen as if i were holding down the button. Any thoughts as to why ? I am using the wireless extender to convert the RF into IR and am using the wire flashers to flash the IR into the dongle.

Thanks.

I have this problem with some BD movies where it always moves two places/selections when I touch that direction only once. Funny thing is it doesn't do it with all BD movie discs, just some of them.

I tried relearning the direction commands to my Harmony 680, but it still does it sometimes. Definitely a PITA for me.

Its not just during movies. When i am in the PS3 menu is when it was happening most. I would try to move left and right btween games, movies, music etc and it would skip all the way to the end. the only thing i can think of is if the flasher is too strong. i will try moving it away and see what happens. I will also check to see if i can increase the delay between button activations for the remote. ill let you know if any of this works.

Thanks!

When I have time after 4/15/08 I was thinking about playing with the Harmony delay myself. I just have no time until then. I appreciate anything you come up with to solve this problem though.

I don't recall ever seeing this problem with the Nyko remote. Do you only have the issue with the Harmony remote?

Yes. When I actually use the Nyko remote itself I do not have this issue. That is why I tried learning the direction commands again. That didn't help though.

I do not have time to troubleshoot it but it can be a PITA when i am trying to use the movie menus to change the audio and it skips over the English HD soundtrack and goes to the French or whatever else language is two spots away from the default selection.

I don't use the Harmony usually to control the PS3, but it has happened when I tried that as well.

It does not do it with all BD movies, so the issue will wait until after 4/15/08 at this point.

Hey guys,

Well i spent the last hour or so trying a bunch of things to fix this issue. I ruled out the "delay" factor because often times when i press the arrow button just once the cursor will skip across the screen. So obviously, at least in my case, it is not a delay issue.

Anyways after some online research as well as trial and error i think i have solved the issue. We are getting what i found to be called "flasher flooding". No pun intended i assume. Basically the Harmony Extender is sending too strong of a IR flash to the dongle and it is "flooding" it.

I guess i should explain that i am using the Harmony 890 utilizing its RF signal and a Harmony Extender to convert back to IR. Also i am using a wire flasher to send my signal from the extender to the dongle. I am not using the Extender itself as the IR flasher.

The good news is it is an easy fix if your setup is like mine. I simply moved the wire flasher about 3 inches AWAY from the dongle and taped it to the cabinet shelf, rather than having it directly mounted to the dongle as before. Apparently this dampens the IR signal enough that the PS3 seems to be responding perfectly now. I played with the remote for about 10 mins and didnt have any skipping issues.

Hope this helps. I will post more if i run into any more interesting tips.

Thanks for the info even though it doesn't solve my issue. More info is always good and even better when others share their research into issues for others. Kudos!

Sorry that didnt help.

Turns out it didnt solve my issue either. The problem occurred less when i did as above but the issue did not disappear.

So i tried more things. I changed my "inter key delay" to 1800 ms (1.8 sec) and i "learned" the direction arrows "from raw" using the logitech software.

Now everything is working beautifully. For now haha. But i used it for over an hour this time before posting that it was working.

So to sum up i am not sure if it was 1) moving the flasher away from the dongle 2) increasing the "inter key delay" or 3) "raw" learning the directional arrow commands but all i know is that one or a combination of all 3 have the Harmony remote working like a gem.

The annoyance of having to unplug my extender every time i want to do even the smallest change to my setup has prevented me from wasting anymore time tweaking the setup to try to narrow down which changes are ACTUALLY CAUSING the remote to work. If anyone wants to take the time please let us know the results.

Thanks for the update. I figured the first thing I was going to try was the inter-key delay on my remote when I get around to doing it. I thought it might be a problem with the command repeating so it was my first thought.

What do you mean you learned the direction keys "from raw"? Does this mean you just learned the keys, or is it a seperate method other than just learning the keys?

Thanks again!

There is a better way. You don't have to set your inter-key delay so high. I currently have mine set to 0, becasue I want it to move each time I press the button. I know, you're thinking but how do I fix it?

If you go to the "Devices" tab on the harmony software, in the area that deals specifically with your device (in this case the "game console"), you can hit the "troubleshoot" button. You might get a option to update your remote with new codes for this device. After that, one of the questions it will ask is "Game Console (With DVD) responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally." Hit that option and it will allow you to adjust the repeat settings on the remote. I found that the PS3 responds very quickly and I had to drop my repeats to 1. I believe it was defaulted to 3. I tried 2 and still had it skip 2 places, so I dropped it to 1 and had no problems.

Hope that helps guys.

I am updating my remote now and mine was set for 3 also. I changed it to 1, and will actually try it later.

Thanks for the tip!

No prob! When I first set up the harmony with the PS3, it would slide the Xross menu all the way to one side or the other when I pressed the arrow once. Not 1 or 2 extra steps, the whole way across. LOL! That was irritating.
