Yes, the PS3 will output DD and DTS via as either PCM or bitstream.

I plan on purchasing a 40gb PS3 in the up coming months. Mainly for Blu Ray, but there are some games I wouldn't mine having either.

Anyways...

I was under the impression that is comes with a disc for Profile 2.0 am I wrong?

My 360 is mad loud, I hope the PS3 is much more quiet. On the other hand my HD-A2 is pretty quiet. Which is great. Just slow loading.

Oh yeah...

1. How is the PS3 on loading Blu Ray discs? Slow, Medium, Fast?

2. Do you need to purchase the Blu Ray remote? Is it worth it? I know you can use the controller too.

The 40 GB PS3 should be much quieter than your XBox 360. I sit about 3 feet from my 80GB and can't hear it all, but when things are warmer in the summer requiring the fan more often to keep it cool, it might be audible, I won't know until then. The Profile 2.0 update should download from the internet on or shortly after January 22. I purchased the USB port adapter remote form Nyko. The PS3 loads faster than any next generation format player I have used or seen.

the ps3 also decodes uncommpressed pcm audio and dolby true HD. And will have a update so it can decode dts master audio.

+1 on the Nyko remote, if you have a Harmony remote, you can use it to control the PS3 once you have the USB adaptor. Not the prettiest solution, but it does work. Keep in mind it will NOT turn the PS3 on, but the way I see it, I have to get up to put a disc in anyway, which in turn powers the machine on, so no biggie.

Do we know this for a fact yet? I'm hoping that it's true, but until we have confirmation, I'm not holding my breath.

So is the Blu Ray remote that you can purchase for the PS3 worth it?

If you have a universal remote and would like to use that, then no. The controller is pretty easy to use, but for $20 the Blu Ray remote might be more comfortable. There is a coupon in the box for a free Blu Ray remote by mail. There is a list of movies and you have to buy two from the list and then send in for the remote. I don't recall what those movies are though.

What kind of free movie deals are they still offering on the 80GB PS3? The best deal seems to getting it off amazon.com

Hmm? Amazon has the same price as everyone else. The free movies are the 5 free via rebate that you can get with any BD player from any vendor. At least that's what I just saw on Amazon.

See, I feel exactly the opposite. If you have a universal remote, then a product such as Nyko's BluWave remote is ideal. It has an IR usb adapter, and as such, will allow universal remotes (IR) to then operate the PS3. Once you've set up your universal remote, you can put away the Nyko remote, but leave the IR USB adapter plugged in.

PS - if you do go this route, I suggest plugging it into something other than the far left port, otherwise, the PS3 things your remote is controller one, and you have to reset your SIXAXIS each time.

Amazon was selling the 80 Gig for 499 but Costco was selling the 40 Gig bundle for $517. Seemed like a rip off.

IMO the 80Gig seems like a much better value, comes with the memory slots larger hard drive and is Ps2 compatible (yes?) seems like your getting a lot more machine for 100 bucks.

I love my 60 gig PS3 as a Blu Ray player and gaming machine. It gets a little hot but its very quiet compared to my 360. On a side note keep an eye out on Amazon for some great BR movie deals, just picked up 5 good movies for $100. On another side note if your into gaming in the least there are getting to be quite a few good games as well as some good $10 downloadable games.

Sorry, your original post made it sound like there was extra movies involved in the Amazon deal.

As for the 80g, it depends on what you are using it for. I will be using it 95% as a BD player, so 40g is fine. If you feel you need the extra slots and you may want to play PS2 games, then the 80g is what you need. The 40g will NOT play PS2 games.

I agree, the Costco bundle only saves you about $10 from buying all the things seperately (using Amazon prices). I guess it's a deal if you need all the things in the package. I have a Harmony remote, so the Blu Ray remote is not needed and I only play alone or online, so the second controller is not needed for me.

but then the costco bundle allows you to return/exchange it unlimited times if you have the receipt and a membership. So if you don't want to deal with Sony, you can do this. The ps3 does NOT fall within costco's 90 day return policy. I believe Sam's Club has the same kind of return/exchange program for the consoles.
