Actually, I would support a change from income tax to import duty as a way of funding the federal government. That would help rather than hurt U.S. manufacturers. It is something like a sales tax in that you don't have to pay unless you buy something imported. I would get behing that one. I would not get behind anything that would increase taxes for any reason at any level.
I do not think the import revenues would be enough to fund the government, but I would agree that they SHOULD implement something along these lines and make it "tax revenue neutral". The problem with that is that governments ALWAYS end up with more revenue when they try to make a tax revenue neutral change. They always err on the side of caution to not lose revenue.

Something like this would reduce our need to export, which would reduce our need to keep the US$ valued low so as to compete with our exports, AND strengthen our mfg here at home and make us more self reliant. Right now, but even more so in the future as we rely more and more on the cheap goods coming from China, our economy becomes vulnerable to not having a conflict with China regardless of what they may do to the USA or any of our allies. Can you imagine what would happen to our economy IF we went to war with China or if they even wanted to just cripple our economy as a show of strength they can/could do this easily couldn't they?

Fmw, do you(or your company) train your service rep to say to the customers " I don't know the answer to that question, but am willing to get you someone who does." if rep doesn't know the answer? It seems to me that is the best way to solve most of the problems in trouble calls.

Spot on Jack!!!!!

Too many people in too many professions don't realize that people want true & honest answers and not BS that embarrasses them later when they repeat it.

I'm talking about people who open a conversation from the start with a nasty attitude and nasty language. Asking a question is fine. People generally want to help. Insulting someone before they have said a word is not fine. Nobody wants to help someone that behaves like that. If someone starts the phone conversation with something like "you F'ing idiots" they aren't going to get much attention. We'll just hang up. Starting the conversation with "Hello, maybe you can help me with a problem" goes a lot further. You should spend a few days answering the telephone and you would be amazed at the garbage you hear. I just hang up on them. I advise employees to do the same. Life's too short. Taking insults simply isn't a requirement of the job. Let them cool down and call back later.

People who behave well on the telephone will get much more help than people who do not.

Are you insinuating I was being nasty on the phone and that is why I was treated as such?

For Pete's sake, I give up. People will read what they want, not what I write.

What are Rabid Rent Ants?

Are they like Fire Ants?

Just joking, I know you were referring to your made up name for something (whatever that might be).

I think he was just saying that you might have gotten someone who had just been with someone else who had ragged on him and been very rude to him and when you got ahold of him he was very sensitive to any negative tone and defensive and you two just got off on the wrong foot when you disagreed with.

At least I assume he was not saying you were nasty after all only you would know if someone could have mistaken you in the heat of the moment as being such.

Some people are just jerks. There is nothing you can do about it. You just have to do your best to deal with them and move on.
