Thumbs up Funai coming to Blu-ray

Good to see more players coming.

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=200

Quote:
Low cost electronics manufacturer Funai (who make components for such low costs brands as Sylvania, Emerson, and Magnavox), has revealed in their latest financial report that they plan to launch a Blu-ray player. With 52% of the DVD player/recorder market in the US, it is very likely that a low cost Blu-ray player would be widely adopted, similar to the success Funai continues to have in the DVD market.

No specific player has been announced, nor any time frame, or manufacturer partnerships, but the inclusion of the bullet in their annual financial report alerts stockholders of their intention to move into the Blu-ray market. As a favorite manufacturer of Walmart (who awarded them a Billion Dollar Supplier Prize in 2006), these low cost players would most likely see wide distribution through the retail giant.
Financial report here. (Pg.12 as it relates to blu-ray)

Too bad the report doesn't have even the slightest idea on when the release might happen. The industry needs them sooner than later.

Funai is a first rate OEM. I believe Funai is the OEM for my Denon DVD-1920 universal player. The player appears to me to be on a par with the Winbase Electronics manufactured DVD players for Oppo and others. Based on the equipment I can track down a manufacturer for, I trust Funai and I believe the company owns the Sylvania name for consumer electronics now and isn't just the OEM. This is good news, I had hoped for a reputable Chinese OEM to be the manufacturer when Blu-ray players start showing up made in China by a mass market OEM. I know Funai and the other companies have made some junk, but I am confident these players will be good.

This is the best news I have seen yet since I still hold out hope for an end to the stupid format war.

According to this page in Funai's financial report Blu-ray's should be available by years end.

http://www.funaiworld.com/investors/...df/ks_e554.pdf

Nearly 79% of Funai's business is in N. America (pg.5) and the inclusion of blu-ray by the end of '07 is on pg. 24. Sounds like they're serious.

If only that were true. Seriously. I'd like one format as much as anyone. I'd prefer it be HD-DVD, but I'd be fine if it was just Blu-ray in the end too. The problem is that we won't see any single format.

While the format war is responsible for bringing us low prices, it is also ensuring that we will have 3 formats moving forward. Actually, If the single sided HD-DVD's come to fruition, then we may just end up with 2 formats some day. But we'll always have a minimum of two.

Thinking anything else is just denial.

I've heard fish oils do wonders, but not sure if you have to start when you are young.

Someone has been playing with the thread. A combination of his new one and this old one, as I was the 3rd post on the new thread (borrommi was 2nd) and now I am much lower.

Notice the OP date - how do you do that - make the first post in May 07 and get it here on 6/22 (my post date)

No meds necessary.
