Well, there is a limited number of people willing to pay $500-$600 for a game console. Once they have theirs, then demand will plummet, especially considering that there are very attractive lower priced alternatives.

Also, I'm certain that the moment the ps3 starts sitting on the shelves, we'll see a price drop on the xbox360...but then again, it may not even be necessary...

That's what I was afraid of...

On second thought, as long as they're Netflixed, then it's ok. Congrats to you and your boy, PFC5.

Thanks everyone! Especially Rockaway who sent me PMs with links that always seems to dry up before I could get to them.

I do not know if the BD movie is actually included in the box. I just assumed it would be. If not, then I guess I will not be able to watch any BD movie.

I will not get to check it out until Christmas morning since it is a gift, BUT you guys gave me a great idea for how he could get it.

I was going to leave that out from the gifts under the tree and just let him think I failed at getting him one, but then walk into another room and say "what is this"? (with a surprised look). It would not be hard explaining it being in another room since I have 4 kids and the gifts fill the room.

What I may do instead, since the Christmas tree is in the family room instead of the livingroom where the HT is, would be to have it all setup connected to the 50" HT HDTV with a little note with his name on it.

Which do you guys think would be better?

I like the idea of having it set up. If you have the movie there will be a sticker on the box saying so.

Don't worry Bruce, even if the movie is included. T N is not going to win anyone over to the other side. Now if it was Ice Age it could be a different story.

Set it up for him on the 50". I would have Resistance playing (most games go into a "demo" mode when left on the main screen for more than a minute or so.)

Either that, or be a real bastard and give it to him later on in the afternoon, long after his hopes of getting one have been crushed.

Scare, but I thought about that last suggestion too. But I was thinking less than an hour after all the presents were opened.

I just checked the box, and it DOES include the BD movie in the box according to the sticker on the box. What I really want to know is about the one year warranty I heard the PS3 has. Given some of the reported problems with them, I really need to know for sure since I only have 1 week to decide on a 1 year Gamestop warranty for $70.00. They said it starts on the date of purchase and runs concurrent with any mfg warranty, but it would be a waste if the Sony warranty is 1 year anyway. I cannot see a reason to spend 12% on a warranty that just gives me same day replacement and no additional time on the warranty.

Congradulations PCF5! It was a matter of time and I guess it worked out perfectly for you. I'm pretty sure you'll be checking out his console, so let me know how the audio reproduction is from the unit!

Thanks!

I just cannot believe I could get one with less than 2 weeks before Christmas. I just called the Gamestop that didn't have any the prior week and low and behold, they had a few of them.

I will not be checking it out until Christmas morning though since it is for Christmas. I knew he would love it and I have been letting him know I may not be able to get one. I don't know how I will hold off giving it to him early though. I hate waiting on any opportunity to make my kids smile.

Just for anyone else that wants to know about the warranty. Here is a link to the ONE year warranty:

http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/PS3/Warranties

This makes that Gamestop warranty a complete waste of money IMO.

It is possible to get one, and its a timing thing. Supply is continuous, but people's patience is not. Most people just assume that there won't be any availible, so they check once or twice and then give up. However, if you're persistent and do online research, then you'll score one.

The BD movie in the box, TN, is one of complete mediocre quality. Its OK, but only OK. Since I know you won't purchase one, you might just as well rent a few BD movies to draw your own conclusions. I know you will.

Yeah, what the hell. Renting only puts about 5-10% of what a BD purchase would put in the enemy's coffers. So if PFC5 cracks and rents a few, at least he won't be doing too much damage...

Actually, I DID purchase ONE.

The one that came with the PS3 I bought.

I guess this means I hurt my preferred format (HD-DVD) THREE WAYS. They are:

1. I bought what statistically (by the studios I guess) IS a BD player by purchasing this PS3.

2. By buying the PS3 I got the included BD movie, so I bought a BD movie (technically).

3. I put a movie attach rate to the PS3 with #2 above (albeit a very low rate).

Oh the shame of it all.

Truthfully, this will be going in his bedroom with a 32" tube SDTV so after checking it out in the HT setup, it will be residing back in his room with an SDTV. So I guess I already proved something towards the HD-DVD format also, by it being used strickly as a gaming machine and not being capable of watching BD movies connected to the SDTV.

At some point I will rent what people rate as the best couple of BD movie to compare with most of my HD-DVD movies and we shall see how the PQ chips fall.

I suspect that some won't believe what my findings are unless they match what THEY believe, but I will be honest and those that know my posts will know this.
