Ya pls get it over with consumers are suffering with this 2 format deal. Have you guys thought of what will happen once the economy in the USA cools off... How will these 1000 to 2000 dollars player sell? It might prolong it more or HD formats might die dont you guys think?

Its a niche market. In a niche market, you don't need mainstream pricing. Of course, if you want to grow the niche into a mainstream market, prices will need to trend downward, and they will. Pricing will trend downward over time as the formats mature. People seem to be highly impatient regarding these formats with expectations that include $200 players right away. It doesn't work that way. Its a slow transition.

Yeah, it's a niche market. But with $500 players the niche suddenly widens and you can reach into a much broader consumer base.

At $200, that a pretty big "niche" - economy or not

Awww man, maybe ill pick up Fifth Element used then. I have it on super-bit dvd, but I love that movie.

Sony is about to or already has very recently re-released a "Remastered" BD version. You would be wise to buy THIS version instead of the BD format release version.

This is a strange thread. I've never seen any demo HD format playing and thought of it as anything less than amazing. Even when BD used the crappy MPEG 2 encoding, it still looked 10x better than DVD.

Maybe its a poor prescription that is to blame?

I haven't seen any HD DVD demos playing. But have seen Blu ray in shops and at home and it all looks fantastic.

That COULD explain why you are a BD fan.

Well if there's no competition on show. Still I can't imaging HD DVD looking any better, I'm sure I wouldn't notice it with my Blu ray glasses on!!!

Until you saw both HD DVD an BD side by side, playing the same movie on the same display models ....with the price tags showing, that is!
---> ----> (HD) (BD) LMAO!

I can then hold my nose way up high as I walk past the BD movie section and pick out this week's plentiful HD DVD new releases.

HD DVD support = exclusive support
Keep dreaming loser, and keep on walking cuz blu-ray does not like you either.

I saw a King Kong demo on HD DVD and was blown away, yet house of daggers on Blu Ray looked like nothing special. The only other difference I can see is that the HD DVD was on a plasma and the Blu was on a LCD. However whenever I see I Blu Ray demo of an actual movie I can't see the "High Definition." I do think I see it in the HD DVD format though. Anyone really like the BluRay, perhpas even think it's better?
I think they have the same PQ. At least they do in my home theater. You're welcome to come watch Planet Earth on my Sony BD-S300 and my 1080P TV. It has picture quality that is about as good as it gets. Don't blame the format. If picture quality were significantly different between the two formats, the format war would have ended already. But it is a war of equals so it rages onward.

So I guess you picked blu-ray by default because you couldn't compare the two?

I picked Blu ray coz it looked really good to me. HD DVD wasn't even around in any shops, and I'm a Sony/Playstation fanboy!!!!! er fanman!!!
I'm happy with the quality I see, but if HD DVD really starts to take over(I can't see that happening here in Australia) I'd get HD DVD as well. I think my remaining days will be Blu!!! But......
