There is not any noticeable difference between PQ with HD DVD vs BD, but it just depends on how good the transfer is on a particular movie.

Of course HD DVD is dead now so it is mostly a moot point at this point.

ACtually SD DVD is 480i not 480p encoded ON the DISC. The players deinterlace the 480i signal, but only if you have a display capable of accepting and displaying a 480p (or higher) signal.

I own two working SDTVs with component inputs that will not accept a progressive signal. My original (a Sony) DVD player, also still operational, does not play progressive. Its best video out is S-video.

Seems so long ago, doesn't it?

after 1 month with the BDP-83, most works well except for the noise of the door mechanism.
but since it is plastic and $499, can't expect it to sound like a metal door of players over $1000 to $2000
