Having not read the article you refer to Maximus cos I'm not registering to. I cant see why Fox would support HD-dvd over Blu ray considering who owns them. They can make all the denials they want but Sony own them and will direct them to release stuff for Blu ray over HD-DVD.
Unless something in the article really changes this opinion. |

I apologise the link has changed, I try to avoid posting links that require registering, etc.
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/mytwocentsa95.html#foxbrd I agree FOX can try to stay neutral on a public level but IMO they are more interested in Blu-ray than they are letting on... Sony owns Columbia/TriStar and now MGM but they do not own 20th Century Fox. |

...this latest audio codec addition still leaves HD DVD as the only next-gen disc to support MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing)

Its really starting to happen now.
It will still be interesting once the battle really gets going. when both formats have products on the shelves. They cant really leave it much longer as with digital television really taking off now around the world people are already experiencing HD broadcasts and will not want their home movie viewing to fall behind in quality. Now the question is, wether to stop buying dvd's now in anticipation of HD dvd at the end of next year? Or buy selected DVD's of older movies the wil not get HD dvd releases for years to come? |

As much as I'd prefer Sony's Blu-Ray technology to prevail (because it's a lot more superior in regards to capacity), I think Toshiba's HD-DVD technology will win the battle. Because... of Toshiba's and Memory-Tech's announcement of a DVD that can play in both regular DVD players and HD-DVD players. Link here: http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews...07_112324.html
Complete Story here That's all I've got to say right now.

Don't get me wrong if they do bring out dual format discs for the same price or even a little more it will be impressive indeed, just not sure I believe it. kozanator, I too prefer the Blu-ray format (in a major way ) but after the big three studio announcement things don't look to good for them. If Disney signs up for HD DVD it's all but over for Blu-ray IMO. Toshiba has even suggested that BDA companies will switch sides to get off the sinking ship. Sony will still launch a Blu-ray PS3 but if they don't get exclusive support from Disney and Fox I don't see how they will compete in the pre-recorded movie arena. This dual-disc announcement doesn't mean much in the "battle" because Blu-ray could easily do the same, and they better...
